Kioti hard starting

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that I did indeed replace the suspect relay, the one that controls the dash display and I seem to remember the ignition circuit. It seemed to make the starting more consistent, BUT it did not solve the problem completely. And, that is part of why I did not mention it earlier. The dealer tested the relay I returned after installing a new one and told me it did not show as faulty. Hence the current thinking about the actual stop solenoid being the problem makes a lot more sense. I'm on board about the stop solenoid solving the intermittent start issue. I will try to remember to see if I hear the solenoid click/snap next time I can't start the machine, and it just cranks but does not fire. It would be a good thing to have this issue solved once and for all. Note: it never occurred when I had my DK-35se/hst for over 275+ hours of use prior to trading it for the DK-40.

(Also note there was a thread this past winter about this issue, and it was oriented toward the relay, NOT the solenoid being the problem; and now it seems the solenoid is the actual solution, for those interested in seeking out eh prior thinking about the relay, etc.)

Wow, thanks for the patspower reference. 6 years here and I never knew about it!

Well my dealer has mailed me a new relay, and well see if thats the problem. If it still persists, then he said we can replace the solenoid. He thinks that the relay will do it though. Apparently he knows about this issue.

I would agree there is something specific wrong with any DK that doesn't start right up. I don't think I have had to crank my engine more than a couple of seconds ever to get it to start even in the cold. I turn on the glow plugs, wait for them to go out then hit the starter. Varroom!

The engine is not known to be tough to start so if it is the dealer should check it out.

OK, its been awhile, but the new relay didn't do the trick.

My dealer came out and replaced the shut off solenoid itself. apparently its getting stuck in the off position. Theres 2 coils in it, one to hold it open and one to close it.

Now it starts great..im happy again. I only occasionally heard the "click" when the key was turned. now i hear it each time the key is turned.

Seems to be a common problem.

I am told that the problem does not seem to re-occur with the replacement . So far (150 hrs), that has been my experience.

I had this problem with my DK35. Replaced relay but did not solve problem. Dealer said they were having switch issues. Replaced switch with no further problems.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I experienced the problem twice in early June. Turning the key off/on solved it both times and it has been fine since. It was likely around 60 hrs at the time and I'm now at 123 hrs. So I'm hoping it was an extra tight fit on the solenoid and it will be OK.
