Problem solved. Unfortunately after splitting the tractor and finding everything looking good we found the 4WD lever had been bumped slightly out of gear. It is kind of stiff shifting. Once it was worked back and forth several times it engaged and the tractor now works as it should.
Embarrassed yes but glad to have it back to work.
