I can definitively say that no oil should be in the column. Tore mine LK column down to the pump today and found- dust seal on top of column, rubber bushing below that a 1'2" or so, threaded portion in middle of column with no seal, and a lower oil seal on top of the pump, directly above a needle bearing. Lower seal was barely identifiable as a seal, and allowed oil from the pump to move up the column to the upper dust seal, inside of column contained all sorts of goop(rubber/water/oil mixture), steering shaft was moderately corroded and required sandblasting, upper bush was intact but way oversize on inner bore, and the new dust seal I installed a few months back ruined from the shaft slop. Had to utilize drawings from an LK 3504/LK3054/LK2554, to build a complete picture of what was actually in there, and even then it lacked a bit of detail. Probably 100 bucks in parts to complete from pump on up. Waiting on parts now.....
