So...goofing off for a few minutes working on truck's fuel pump, I took the UTV out for a spin after putting in some truck diesel, and, well, I broke my utv
Something went POP! after running down and back up a gully and I had no more drive power. The engine continued running fine. However none of the power was being applied to the drivetrain. Not in Forward (Hi or Low) and not in Reverse. Not in 4wd, not in 2wd.
CV joints front and rear appeared fine, no outward damage or shreddedness. I couldn't see anything under the carriage of course due to the entire belly being a skid plate. I did notice, the final time I shifted from Reverse back to Forward Hi I heard a slight slap/clunk of what I thought was a belt. But still nothing. I shut it down, gave a push in Neutral to a snice shady spot under the big Oak tree above the pond and left it. I'll recover it with the tractor here later and get it back to the shop area. I do not know this machine much at all except for the basic maintenance routine. I just haven't worked on one to learn yet. Looks like I'm gonna learn now. Can anyone point me to a general area I should begin my investigation based on the symptoms? I don't have any sort of full blown service manual, we bought the utv used a few years ago but I can look some more. I guess the upside to working on a utv is the parts are smaller and lighter than the truck
I appreciate the help.
