I bought but have not yet installed the Amsoil 15-40 Diesel oil that would best suit my diesel Kioti. I looked hard at the specs and decided the best was the 15-40, NOT the 5-40 as some have suggested. The true synthetic does offer advantages that a dino oil can't in this temp /use range. Therefore I side with their being no need, plus when I mentioned the 5-40 synthetic to my dealer he said to stick with the 15-40 instead but clearly stated to use an oil specked for DIESEL use, not for gas engines.
Some Amsoil products do specify use before 2007, since there seems to be some sort of demarcation line about the technology at the 2007 era vehicles.
There is also SEMI-synthetic oil available, but for me I want to go with what is best able to handle the widest temp range and have the highest possible lubrication and resistance to breakdown. Price is a consideration , but a secondary one at best when it comes to the life of my tractor's engine. How much would I be saving if I had to do a partial or complete teardown sooner on a cheaper oil? It makes no sense to save in the short to spend the big in the long run.

The only reason I use synthetic oil is for it's cold start characteristics. I would hazard a guess; if you used refurbished(remanufactured) drain oil, of the proper API rating, and adhered to the tractor manufacturers' oil maintainence schedule, you would not significantly,if at all, increase the engines' longevity, BUT would save a pocketful of money over the Amzoil, Royal Purples' of the oil industry  As stated earlier, I would use "dino oils" if I lived in a warmer climate ;)

Good choice. I'm not sure what your dealer charges for the oil, but if you register for a preferred account on Amsoil's website, it will let you buy the oil at discounted prices. It's only $10 for a 6 month subscription and $20 for a full year. If you order a couple of times a year, or order in multiple gallon quantities, like I do, than it will pay for itself very quickly, possibly in just one purchase. I got a preferred account a few years ago after I bought 4 gallons of 15w-40 from a dealer and it cost $144 total. On Amsoil's website, without a "P" account, it would cost you about $122, so it's still a savings to order online because even the shipping won't be $22 to make up the difference. With the "P" account, it goes down to about $91, not including shipping. That's a huge savings, and it'll pay for the "P" account in one purchase.

On which oil to run in which MY engines, just remember this; CI-4+ and earlier oil grades are better in pre-2007 non-emissions engines, and the CJ-4+ is the only thing you should run in the post-2007 emissions equipped diesel engines. Most oil companies are pretty good about marking their bottles, but when in doubt, just remember that little bit.

I would use 15w-40 oil that DOES NOT carry the newer downgraded CJ-4 rating. The oil should only go up to the CI-4 rating. CJ rated oil has less antiwear ZDDP additive. TSC carries the CJ oil. Surprisingly, Walmart's TECH oil is still rated Ci. I wish someone could tell me who makes these oils. Amsoil sells oil without the CJ rating and CJ for the newer roller lifter diesels.

Walmarts Super tech 15w-40 is made by either SOPUS or Warren distribution (WPP).
Its listed on the MSDS, see below.

don't use CJ-4 oil unless you have to. Use CI-4 oil. CJ-4 oil has had the ant-wear additives reduced. These additives were pugging the antipollution devices on the newer diesels. The additives-ZDDp has had a proven record of over 60 years.
