Don't get hung up on the cosmetics of the new CK series. Have to admit I like the styling, but you are not buying to cruise the blvd. When I bought my LK the new series was just coming out and my wow antenna went up. But after testing the LK and thinking about what I was going to do, the LK was the right choice. If you have 7 acres and want to spend time enjoying it, you will have more time with a bigger unit.

I bought the LK3054XS last year with backhoe, two buckets, box scraper and front loader for a few bucks under $20,000. That was after rebate and I got 4 year no interest loan. It is a great work horse and once you get it home you forget about not having the newest look. I still admire how pretty it is.

I am sure you will love whatever you get, just remember it is a tractor, not a Porsche.

Good Luck

Cag,
When I was looking the CK series was just coming out and I am a little fuzzy on the timing. I had seen pictures reviewed the specs via the web. No I did not test the CK series. The LK series with the upgraded hydraulics and moved shifter was rather new as well. Most of my comparison was the LK to DK 35. Loved the DK as well but it was just to much tractor for what was planned. I did test new NH which was similar in shape. This is not to knock the CK, they are great tractors and I do like the look. I just don't want anyone to overlook the LK because it is a little dated. My plan is to keep this tractor a long time so cosmetics was not as important. It is true that the LK is a little tight in the cockpit. I am 6"2 and 220 lbs and find that the driver area allthough a little tight to get in and out, once there, it fits like a glove. The shuttle shift has proved to work great, even though it is not syncro you will be suprised how quickly you can change directions.

Richard, correct me if I'm wrong, the 3054 has a mechanical shuttle shift that your required to use the clutch to change direction, but this can be done without stopping, I believe the CK30 works in the same fashion. I believe they both have two-stage clutch, now when I look at the 3054 it has more of the industrial heavy duty look, better FEL and probably a better BH set up, but when you compare just the tractor side by side it's pretty close. I'm looking forward to trying both models, I do like the visibility better from the operator seat of the CK30.. When the time comes it's going to be a tough decision to make, I might PM you in the future with some questions if that's ok...cag

Cag,
I believe you are right on the shuttle shift. The usage is almost second nature by now and I have not experienced any inconveniences with the shuttle shift. Since I have no real experience with the CK's, I cannot speak fairly on them. I do know that I looked at a lot of tractors prior to purchase and the LK does seem like it is well built. The visibility is better with the newer models, but I am tall enough that it is not a problem. I thought about putting some rubber gromets under the seat to get a little more lift.

Please feel free to send me a PM if you have any special questions. I tend to travel a lot in business so I am not always checking my messages but I will do my best to keep an eye out. Either way you go, I doubt you will be unhappy.

cag,
The 3054 is mechanical shuttle- stop to shift from forward/reverse.
The CK 30 is syncronized shuttle - can be shifted forward/reverse without complete stop.
Both models have sycronized main transmissions and both types of shuttle work fine..

The price on the CK20 is pretty good considering it includes the taxes. That's about what was being paid before the increases. The tractor is very capable, and I've done enough with mine at almost 300 hours to attest to it.
As others have said, you'll do things a little slower since you have to use smaller implements, but the CK20 will take a 5' rotary cutter and finish mower regardless of what some may think. It will handle them quite well. In any major growth, at the worst, you'll have to take a little smaller bite, but for the most part, they'll do fine.
Seems you were going to go cash. Maybe you could pay the price of the CK20 down on a CK30 and get zero or low interest with Kioti financing. With that much down, I'm sure Agricredit would probably go for it. However, you could probably get a little better price on the CK30. John

Vince, here is a quote from my info sheets regarding tractor transmissions, "shuttle shift transmissions have been used for many years on tractor loaders. These may be mechanical or hydraulic. Mechanical shuttles require using the clutch to change direction, but they are synchronized. Hydraulic shuttles can be shifted with out using the clutch. Either way, these transmissions allow the operator to change directions with out stopping. They allow for similar speeds in forward and reverse and increase productivity with a loader. The GST transmission allows the operator to shift up and down through all 8 speeds with out clutching and to shift from forward to reverse with out stopping or clutching. This is a mechanical transmission with an automatic clutch. The Glide Shift provides some of the benefits of the hydrostatic and some the benefits of a gear transmission. And then there is the basic gear and HST,I think everyone knows how that works. I tried to download this site for the info but was unable, so I decided to type it down...cag
