I think it would be a good idea to include the CD when you buy the paper manual, though I'm not counting on them doing it- piracy is just too easy.
Service updates would be GREAT as add-ons for the paper manual, but that, too, is problematic. How would they know who has them? I doubt they are going to be willing to start registering manual owners. In their eyes, the juice would not be worth the squeeze.
I bought a factory service manual for a Subaru STI once (7 volumes at $375). My dealer received it, handed it to me, and that was the end of that transaction as far as Subaru was concerned.
The only way you are ever going to see service manual updates is to open a dealership- or least start buying beer for one that is sympathetic to your cause.
