Thanks for the help again. I've contacted the dealer to get the DK45 SE HST for $17,400. So unless something comes up, that looks like the one for me (and makes my smart boss happy!).
BTW, anyone know the correct pronunciation for Kioti? The dealer pronounces it like the animal (Coyote), I would have thought being asian it would be Key-Oh-Tee.

Kioti like the animal.

Kioti like the animal.

Yep. Check out their logo.

However, you are correct that the Asian pronunciation would be different. Go figure.

By the way, you got an excellent price on that DK45se HST. That is the lowest price I've ever seen and is cheaper than when they first came out before several price hikes. Tremendous bang for the buck.

If you plan on doing little or no plowing, discing, or haying then the HST is the way to go, much easier to operate with less operator imput. With HST you turn it on set your rpm and range and then it drives easily. Pulling a brush hog won't be an issue with HST and the HST can do a job faster, when loading piles as you go forwards to backwards much easier.

With gear drive you have more options when pushing or loading piles since you can set the range and gear, but it will take you longer. I find that when I plow snow with a HST it takes alot less time for me when going back and forth since your not limited by the capabilites of the gear you selected and don't need to switch gears. But for deep packed hard to load fill. Where its difficult getting large loader bucket piles I lcan oad more in each bucket with a gear. Since you can push into the piles with more force if your in low range and in first or second gear, than just low range in a HST.

I can actually pull a triple bottom plow with my Kioti dk 40 SE gear while my buddy can't pull the same plow with his JD 4700 that is HST with more HP. I can't say that I'm comparing apples to apples as there are quite a few variables including weight.

Good points. One thing that tractor builders won't list is the efficiency rating. That is...how much engine horsepower makes it to the wheels. Gear drive tractors typically have a loss ranging from 9 to 15 percent. I have seen HST machines that have loss as high as 40%. This means that if you are doing real work with the machine if have to buy a larger tractor and spend more money to do the same work as the less expensive gear drive. Hydrostatic machines have been around for more than 30 years. Unless they get light use it's hard to find a 20 year old tractor. They don't last as long as their gear drive cousins and cost a bunch more to repair. When I worked for Deere people would fall out of their chair when they found out it was going to cost 12 to 14 thousand to go through their hydrostatic drive system. That's the point when many people would end up sending the tractor the the bone yard and buy another machine.

Now that you have the vendor hooked, have him thow in some chain hooks welded to the bucket.

45SE hydro for $17,400?? What all are you getting on the machine?
Is this price just for the tractor?
Is this a cash deal or are you financing?

HST,HST,man!never used one,so they might be the greatest thing since ice cream,but...

The reason many chose it is cause they can't even drive a standard trans. car or truck.

I think geared tractors are more simpler, you get more useable hp out of motor, they are cheaper and unless you were using your tractor mainly as an endloader, can't see any other possible advantage.

I just can't see whats the big deal select the gear for the task at hand and apply the throttle for the amount of power needed.Pretty simple IMO.

woodyacres;1615831. Sometimes I think I should have gotten the DK40 so I had the stronger loader. Good Luck![/QUOTE said:
I have the dk 40, sometimes I think I should have gotten the dk 55, but then I'd think I should have gotten the dk65.

I was taught that you buy what you need, not what you want.

If everybody bought what they needed and not what they wanted, this would be a strange new world wouldn't it?

If that has a loader with it that is the best price I have seen by far.
Since your paying the $$$ you can pronounce Kioti any way you like.
