If anyone in the upstate NY area wants an aerial shot of their property, give me a shout. I do this on the side.

We have a guy in our area who takes aerial pictures for commercial real esate firms that make up ads for large commercial properties (with an aerial photo).

He is basically retired, but flys a small plane as a hobby and takes these photos.

For $200, he took two rolls of pictures of my house and land; came out quite nice. Was interesting seeing everything from above. My primary purpose was to identify where my land boundaries were.

Could probably just call your closest local airport and see if they have anyone interested in doing this for you.

I suggest that if anyone gets this done, to measure a known distance i.e. 100' and place a large white cross at each end preferably as large as possible (use sheets or even paint it)
this will give you a scaling reference, which can come in handy if you use the photo's for any planning/landscaping etc. Of course it won't be as accurate as a full blown aerial survey but can still prove useful.

Chris

I agree, but it is a quick way to see the area around your place. It's amazing what's there that you never knew about; gravel pits, deep woods, etc.

Also check with your county/state. My county has photos taken by aircraft that are very detailed. You can see upturned trees, houses, cars, golf carts, etc. I'm sure you could see people.

The county sells copies for $5 or so. The copies are real could but they show property boundries and such. The origional photos I saw where amazing. The copies are something like 2 feet by three feet. Drafting paper size I used to use in high school drafting class.

Hope this helps...

I had to dig through the archives to find this, but here it is, "Hilleary Hills" (no Clinton jokes please) as viewed from the air.

The picture was taken in the fall of 1995, the year we moved into the house, notice I said moved in not finished! Our insurance agent is a pilot and was gracious enough to take my wife and me for a flight.
