KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

Anyone run into this problem? I have a King Kutter 30" dirt scoop, which I love.. but I hadn't ever used it in the forward position until the other day... and I discovered it hits the rear tires when raised. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The King Kutter people suggested maybe longer lift arms on the JD.. but I suspect that would end up being expensive and possibly causing some other types of problems.

The tires are already set in their wide position. Not sure what else to try except see if someone wants to buy this scoop and I'll get the smaller 24" one.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bob

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

I have got a scoop and use it a lot- old fashioned but a good tool. I have no solutions for you, though. If your tires are out (can they be reversed for further spread?) then the only solution is to get the whole thing sitting further back. My problem was the check chains being loose enough to allow it to swing into the tires on a side hill, but new chains solved that. I assume it is the cutting edge of the blade that rubs the tires...as long as you dont back up it will probably cause little to no wear.

Sorry I cant shed some light on the problem.

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

Maybe this isn't an option, but a 3ph quick attach (like JD iMatch or Speeco unit) would push it back a couple of inches. Of course there's the possibility that your dirt scoop or other implements aren't compatible with the quick hitch, and of course it's extra money.

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

Steve,

I don't have check-chains.. I have pins I put through and lock to keep side-to-side motion under control. But that doesn't do it.. even dead center, it still hits both tires. Probably you're right in that it won't hurt the tires. When it's down and engaging the ground, it clears fine. It's only when it's lifted up a bit that it hits. So I can keep it low until time to dump it, then raise it up. I think. I have to experiment more to find out exactly what I can and can't do.

Thanks!

Bob

Green,

I haven't ever looked at the quick attach stuff.. maybe it's time to. Thanks for the pointer!

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

Bob, just for reference I went out and made some measurements on my iMatch setup. The mount points are pushed rearward by about 4.25 inches compared to directly connecting to the 3ph.

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

You didn't say what is actually hitting the tires. Is it the scoop itself or the lower arms? You can reverse the pins and move the lower arms a lot closer together if they are hitting, keeping in mind that a cat. 1 hitch is standard 26" width, and a 30" scoop starts with about a 32" width with the pins facing out.

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

I just got a 30" scoop for mine, and I got the same problem /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. The pins are positioned to the inside and the 3PT side arms still rub the tires when the scoop is raised to the highest position. I am looking at using a solid bar and then just figure out a way to secure the arms on the bar. Otherwise i would need to fashion some longer pins. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Matter of fact, not even to the highest position, it rubs before that position is reached. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: KK 30\" dirt scoop hits JD4300 tires

Hi Bob--You have several low cost possible solutions: 1--Move the lift arm pin holes foreward as much as possible (requires drilling 2 5/8 inch holes)--2--Shorten the toplink--3--adjust the length of your rockshaft forks, so as to make them longer, thus, somewhat limiting the max upward lift movement?? Maybe a combination of all three of the above--Ken Sweet
