I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I can't figure out how to get a flat, smooth seed bed using my king kutter disc. I'm pulling it with a MF 135. The disc is 5.5" wide with 16" blades and has 2 adjustments. I have the rear set on the least aggresive setting and it still leaves a ridge right down the middle. I have nice loose soil, tills up well, just can't get it flat. Ideas?

A railroad crosstie or utility pole works well for a drag. Well casing filled with concrete is my favorite. Make your drag about 1 ft wider than your disc. Ken Sweet

If the rear gangs are held on by large "U" bolts then loosen them and slide the gangs out on the frame.
The rear gangs are usually shipped too narrow to save on shipping space. Move them out 4" to 6" and see what happens. That should put them near the end of the frame.
Another possibility is that the travel is too fast. Not likely since the rears are set to the least aggressive mode but it could be.
One last factor: If the rear gangs are cutting deeper than the fronts they will throw more soil toward the center. Make sure the disc is running level.

That often happens when the top link is set too short. The front gangs are doing more work than the rear. Lengthen the top link as far as it will go. If it won't go much further, get a longer top link. Weight will help too, but I only do it as a last resort. It adds a lot of stress to the disk.
No, the gangs are not adjustable in/out. This is the lighter weight angle iron model from KK, not the square tube model.
Okay, I get the drag idea, but the top link has me stumped. BTW, this is all pretty new to me, just getting into the tractor/tool/fun toy stuff. I adjust the top link until it seems to float, or not have any pressure on it and the disc seems level while the tractor is sitting still. Wrong idea?

If you look close at the first picture, you can see the ridge left by the right side rear gangs. I think you're on the right track adjusting the top link. On mine, I adjust it level when down, maybe a crank or so down on the front. Mostly level though. It's half of a JD KBA. MarkAttachments

Yours is a offset disc and the KK of the OP is a tandem disc. The oddities of each type are a bit different.
Hmmm....if the top link is too short and the front gangs are doing the work then the soil will be thrown away from the middle and the rears won't be able to throw enough back to approximate level. The result is a trench.
If the top link is too long then the rears will be throwing more soil back than the fronts are throwing out. The result is a ridge down the middle.

I agree sounds like the rear of the disc is digging in deeper than the front. Another question is how deep are you running the disc?
