KK Subsoiler Question

Using a newly purchased KK Subsoiler last evening, I ran across something that bent, then broke (rather suddenly) my Cat 1 top link. The tractor is a 27 HP MF compact tractor. Should I use something like a sheer bolt rather than a regular top link pin to keep this from happening when I replace the top link? If so, do you have any suggestions about what to use?
