Hopefully someone will find this of value. The Kohler engine on my Simplicity Prestige developed an oil leak someplace on top of the engine. Before just starting to take it apart I did some research on what could be the problem and how to go about repairing it. The second video included is what tipped me off as to what was the problem and how to replace the seal without damaging the new one.
The first video included shows what needs to removed to get to the seal. I used an impact wrench to take off the flywheel bolt. My neighbor had the tool to remove the flywheel. I have seen Harbor Freight has one item#69889 for $13.99. What took the longest was cleaning up the engine from all the dirt that had accumulated from sticking to the leaking oil. Since it is an air cool engine, I felt it was important to clean it up. The seal cost $2.50 and I determined the part number by going to www.kohlerplus.com, no login id needed just click on -Enter as Guest
I just wonder how much the local Simplicity dealer would have charged me to determine what the problem was and the cost to repair. You can see from the videos it is not a hard job to do, but like most jobs the hard part is knowing how to do it and having the correct tools.
