Have a large syringe for mixed gas and used it to feed the carb when the engine was acting up. It ran perfect till I was out of gas in the syringe. The new pump barely trickles at full throttle but when cooled down it flows normally at full throttle. Something with the vacuum pressure actuating the pump is the issue.

I have a Kohler Command Pro 25 in my machine. My fuel pump broke. Fuel pump is attached to the valve cover and was quite expensive. I ended up gutting the fuel pump of all parts, and used the fuel input port as a vacuum port for a cheap vacuum fuel pump. Worked great. I can post links to it if you want to see it.

I had a similar problem a long time ago. The fuel pump died (can't remember what) so I bought an electric one. It's a low pressure one designed for a carb. It was dirt cheap. Something like this. If you do install one you that if you roll on your side the pump will still run unless you install some sort of rool over switch. Or, if you haven't defeated the seat switch, you could use that so if you come off the seat the pump will shut off. If your lawn is flat it shouldn't be an issue and the backfire valve in the carb should be more than enough to prevent fuel from flowing but I figured I would warn you.

So I ended up installing an electric fuel pump and have mowed over 10 hrs on it flawlessly. Never has this motor run so smooth. So the cylinder providing the vacuum for the pulse fuel pump is over pressuring is confirmed. I plan on using this tractor till the end of the year then I am selling it. I will make my money back and a little extra. I am so done with any courage motors. Just picked up a Deere 210 ($350) that just need some cleaning and new bearings/blades. It took care of the lawn cutting while the craftsman was down.
For anyone interested this is my fuel setup. Nylon barb/threaded 90 adapter epoxied (Quiksteel) to fuel tank. Then a filter before and after the electric pump (4-6psi on eBay/Amazon) with an earls/Holley 1-4psi fuel regulator. Two outlets one to the carb the other to the stock fuel barb on top of tank now being used as a return. I teed off the return for a small 1-15psi fuel gauge. Pump gets power from the fuel solenoid wire.

I'm one of the lucky ones but the 19hp MTD with the Courage motor had a habit of splitting. It happened to a coworker. As he would say the name courage came from Kohler having the courage to sell something of such poor quality. The funny thing is the engine would still run, just leak oil. Here's a video of one running.
