I have a CC 1315 with the Kohler 12.5 spec 1211. For the last year I have been fighting an intermittent starting problem. Headlights not turning on all the time led me to a flakey ignition switch. No cranking at times & stomping down on clutch/brake pedal led to replacing the deck switch. Still having problems starting at times had me bypassing reverse switch. Still starting problems that I finally realized usually only happened when warm. Cranks fine, but no spark at a grounded spark plug. There is no separate coil on this model. This leads me to think that the ignition module/magneto is failing when warm. Before I spend $50 on a new module, does this sound like I am on the right track.
Thanks
Al

i would say that u might be onto something, cause if it dont start when warm, it would usually be a coil. I would see what some of the other guys say too.....good luck and keep us posted

while I would ditto the failing coil, might want to pull the cooling shroud sheet metal off that engine first - clean it good and inspect all exposed wiring (particularly the coil ground ing wire) for any damage. Wont cost anything but the time and may save you some money - if you find plugged up fins or a ground wire capable of shorting out... Just don't run the engine with shroud off.

Tried all this on Sunday. No change, so I ordered the coil today.

UPDATE

Thought I would post an update. When I got the new module, before I installed it I decided to check the existing air gap. I'm a dummy. Should have done that first. Supposed to be 10 > 12 thou. Had virtually none. Must be why I could not ohm it out. Put the new mod in & all is fine. Checked the resistance on the old mod with it out & I had 14 thous. So it looks like I have a good spare.
