Kohler V-twin Head Removal

Hmmm....not going that deep this time.... engine has 550 hr.s.....
though abused hr.s I think.
Will totally clean engine best I can before I pull heads.
Just replace front seal 3 weeks ago and all is bone dry at PTO end of crankshaft.... but will carefully inspect rear for oil travel....
like I said ..I am hoping the oil from the head was seeping into rear shroud
by way of stater motor....which was so gunked up with oil... I am surprised it still works.

From what you have posted I will surmise that when the flywheel is removed you will find the stator completely coated in a black curd. It sounds like the rear seal has failed. The fan on the flywheel is blowing the oil forwards into the cooling fins on the cylinders heads and out around the starter. Unless the rings have failed you should get very little oil blow out when the head gasket fails or is bad.

Oh Man... I hope the rear seal is ok...... I REALLY don't want to go there...
I DO know that the head gasket looks like it was leaking oil for a while ...
from the rear of gasket...or so it appears... but then as you said....
it would be grimier at the rear of head ... from fan blowing up
over head.
Anyways...latest road block is how do I get fuse block off plastic fire wall ?
Don't want to break plastic screws that hold it in place....
do they turn ?

Like I said...not going to replace rear seal this time... and hope for the best that all oil was from head gasket.
I Did find a serious shortcut on the job that will save hours.....
will post a pic later...
Any one use grease on head gaskets ..or install dry ?
