Komatsu D21 gray market?

Brent, I have a D21-6 and when I steer to the right the engine starts to lug. Did you or can anyone advise. Could it be a steering clutch out of adjustment or something else?

Sounds like the right side clutch isn't releasing. You are using your right side brake to force a steer.

Do the steering clutch test trick where you are motoring up a hill in a low gear and pull both steering levers slowly at the same time. The machine should stop powering up the hill and then begin to roll back, as you continue to pull the levers the steering brakes will stop the machine from rolling. All of this should happen without the machine turning.

All of my above advice is worthless unless you have the old style steering clutches and two levers to steer with. If hydrostatic then hope someone else chimes in.

Another thought is undercarriage binding when turning one direction. Maybe all your rollers are blown out on one side. Check your rails for abnormal shiny spots or broken pieces.

Boy have I been slacking.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If anyone here has any questions on gray market D21's contact me anytime. I personally import these AWESOME machines and parts are not a problem. Have all the manuals and can help you with parts if you need.

I do get big machines sometimes as well but they don't always fit in a container. Well unless you want to have it shipped in pieces. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi,
I have a D21P-7E 1997(?) with rubber tracks. The rubber tracks are disintegrating and the metal teeth are falling out...10 so far. The only source I have found is from Komatsu America thru their dealer in the Northwest (Kent, Washington) for $7500-$8000. No used rubber tracks. This price seems too high.

Do you have a set of rubber tracks that would work on this machine? Or know of a source?. The existing tracks are 500mm x 71mm x 72 # of links. The Komatsu number on the track is 10G-32-1R110.

Could I go to a skinnier rubber track?
Used tracks would be OK. I am using this dozer on a 15acre farmette in Washington. I am the only operator.

Not normal, this sounds like the steering breaks are engaging before the drive clutches are releasing. It could be a steering lever linkage adjustment OR the break bands are too tight. I place my money on the break bands being to tight. About how far do you have to pull a lever out to get it to turn? Does it try to stall when you pull just one lever? or bog down at all when turning just left or just right? The break band adjustment is very simple - do you know where to access the break band adjuster bolts? if so first tighten them till you feel resistance then back off 4 turns.

Good luck with it - I love my D20A-6 it's a "cute" little dozer, just right for the tight spots.
