Tractor
Kubota L3130HST 4WD, BX2350
My mowing tractor is starting to yearn for the boneyard and I'm considering the BX series. Can anyone give me a ballpark price figure on the 2230? I'm not interested in adding a loader. I just want something to mow with, pull a utility wagon, maybe a boxblade. I'm interested in the 54" mowing deck.

also.. do they make a folding ROPS for this thing? I see the BX23 has one but not pictured on the 2230 anywhere in Kubotas brochures or online. I'd like to store it in my 14x10 barn and the doorway may not be high enough for the ROPS.

thanks.

Can't speak to the price, but I tried searching (in vain) for a foldable ROPS for the BX2200. I contacted an aftermarket place that builds some OEM folding ROPS, but they aren't interested in Kubota ROPS.

My understanding is the X ROPS won't fit the 22__, so that option isn't available.

Soon, I will be modding my rops to make it fold, which I know is a NO NO. Yes, I know it violates all the rules from Kubota, so you don't need to warn me. We've hashed it a lot in this forum.
(Just ask Henro about drilling a hole in his rops and the warnings he got /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

Best wishes,

No plans to saw the ROPS in half! I do wonder if you could buy the folding ROPS from the BX-23 and adapt it for the 2230.. they appear similar in size. It's stupid for Kubota to not offer a folding ROPS considering the tractor is in the size group that people might want to put it in a storage barn instead of a garage!

I had that thought also, and have not taken a close look personally, but I'm told that the mounting is different (the BH model has an additional or different mount). I plan to take a close look and might go that route rather than modding mine. That way IF I ever sell mine, I can re-install the original factory ROPS.

The price of a Bota Folding ROPS is about $500 plus shipping, when I checked last year, if you elect to go that route.

Best wishes,
ron

Well, the 500 might be worth it if it means putting it in the barn or having to take up more valuable garage space.

I've found various prices for the tractor itself online.. mostly they package it with the loader.. which I don't need (already have the L3130 w/loader and BH). I figure it should be around ten grand with the mowing deck.

I'm just looking for a mowing and utility tractor (small).. something that's not going to tear up the lawn with weekly use..

Yeah, 10 grand is pretty much what I'm figuring on paying. I probably won't purchase until spring.. I've got a fall blacktop project that's going to absorb any extra funds.

I'm looking to deal with a local dealer in connecticut.. but the more information I have going in the better deal I'll get.

People on this forum seem a bit paranoid about ROPS quite frankly. If you decide to buy a BX2230 and factory ROPS is too tall my suggestion would be to take some good pictures of a BX23 folding ROPS, get the parts from the BX23 ROPS from the parts counter and go find a race car shop that welds up rollcages regularly. These guys will be good welders and they will know the importance of making sure the thing is safe. With some minor modifications you should be able to make the BX2230 ROPS foldable in the same fashion as the BX23 ROPS and have it be perfectly safe. This will of course void your warranty on the ROPS but you will have to balance that against not being able to get the tractor in the barn. The other option might be to get a race car shop to custom make a foldable ROPS for your tractor and save the original to put back on in case you ever sell and want the tractor in original condition.

Careful Jim. A lot of people will take you to task for what you said.

I think in the end, I'm think I'm going to cut mine, and weld it back up so it pivots similiar to a BX. I know, I know, bad on me.

Best wishes,
Ron

Isn't that the truth... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You know, I was looking at my BX2200 ROPS...and on one side Kubota welded a bracket for mounting the SMV triangle...

Now I have a use for a second mount like that, if I put in on the other side of the ROPS. So they welded on the left, can I weld on the right?

Why not?

A good weld is a good weld, and I bet I can do as good a weld as they did...

But still, some would object to my welding on the right, but be satisfied with the Kubota weld on the left...

In the end, it only matters to us, since we are the ones in the tractor seat.

Welding on the ROPS is probably a lot better than drilling holes in ones ROPS...

Tractor's are not NASCAR racers. Could a welder that could produce a NASCAR roll cage not weld your ROPS well enough? The energy of a NASCAR crash is orders of magnetide greater than what a tractor crash can produce.

Now this is all just my opinion, which is worth about as much as your empty beer glass...so take it with a grain of salt... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
