Hi Folks - I am finally a registered member after spending hours on the site educating myself. I am a homeowner looking for a subcompact tractor for all the usual landscape chores. I have looked at the MF/Simplicity Legacy, MFGC, NHTZ, Cub 52, and Kubota 1850/2350...I am leaning towards the 2350 and was wondering if anyone has experience with the "fine cut" deck? I do have a good portion of my mowing that is "groomed" lawn and was hoping to find a good mulching deck in a sub tractor.

My local dealer told me it's a waste of money and to go with the standard deck, but I was not convinced he was speaking from experiece...

Any feedback is appreciated - both on the tractor selection as well as the deck.

First quote I received was $15,900 for 2350, FEL, 54" MMM, bagger, ballast box...thoughts on price, seems pretty high...?

Thanx, Curt

Welcome to the forum, fellow Massachusettsite! There has been some discussion on the fine vs regular deck here already. It is a new option this year so I don't know much about it but if I recall correctly the dealers were having some trouble even getting them. You could try doing a search for the topic if they have that feature working yet from the software upgrades. What I can tell you is that the old deck gives a real nice cut so I can't imaging you would be losing that much if you opted not to get the fine deck.

As for price, I bought mine three years ago so it's hard for me to say. One thing I should mention is that different areas of the Country seem to have cheaper prices than us here in N.E. so try not to let that drive you crazy.

Good luck!

Your going to bag the clippings anyway correct? I mean what benefit would the fine cut deck give you. For the record I have no issues with how the MMM cuts on my 2230.

C&A - Also from Mass (Western side) looking at a 2350. I haven't seen anyone rave about the fine cut decks although I haven't seen anyone curse them either. Probably since they are new there is a small sample size. I think the price difference is about $100 so I don't think it shouldn't be a major pain point.

The grass catcher retails for $1,630, so you should be able to get it for $1,450 to $1,500. I was quoted $13,870, $13,600 and $13,500 for a 2350, FEL, 54" deck, Ballast Box and Grill Guard from 3 local dealers. Going with the middle quote as the dealer seems better and it is in southern NH (no sales tax).

Hope that helps.

Thanx for the feedback - I was curious about the deck in hopes of getting the fine cut deck with the mulching kit and "delaying" the bagger purchase - I know I will need it for fall leaves and such... Curt

After reading your post, I looked up the model number RCK54P23BX and according to the website I have the fine cut model on my new BX2350. Didn't order it on purpose, but it was the package the dealer put together.

I only have 4.5h on my machine and 3 mowing passes so I'm still learning, but it does a great job. No mulching kit either, but the last time I did the lawn it left hardly anything visible after cutting and made these very professional looking stripes on my lawn.

A few more observations: This is one quiet machine when mowing! I got the R4s and would recommend them. Aside from mowing when it's probably too wet they don't seem to bother the lawn at all in 2WD and they're nice when using the FEL. And I also had to get over the fact that NE prices are higher than you often see here - paid $13,700 for the 2350 with FEL, grille guard, fine cut deck, no ballast box but loaded rear tires delivered to my house. I also had to wait about 3 weeks for delivery.

You'll really like the machine.

Thanx CRD - this is very helpful info, several folks now, you included, are pleased with the cut.

I hadn't really considered anything other than turf tires, may now reconsider...
