Tractor
Still Looking
The new guy here again. Have not purchased a tractor yet. still looking for input and opinion...

I post this in this forum thinking you guys will enlighten me as to why the kubota is the better buy.. (they are priced similar)

They are both in the same ball park price wise. The Kubota is lighter, less HP. They both come with fel.

It looks to me as if the Kioti is the way to go on this one...bigger is better?

The underwriters kicked the property loan back because the paint is chipping a bit on the front porch. So that gives me maybe another week or two to research these tractors. The Montana I was looking at may not be there when I am ready to get one. I think if the pressure was on I would probably go with the montana. Bigger is probably better with 8 acres..

My first tractor, mmmmmmmmmmm. I used to run other folks to make money back in high school but never owned anything bigger than a garden tractor.

Kubota and Kioti both make good tractors. I would not pick a BX for 8 acres.

Bigger isn'r better! It's just bigger. I'm convinced that with the attitude of bigger is better you'll be missing most of the right reasons for picking the right tractor. Cost alone also isn't a great reason to pick one tractor over another nor is color alone.
Reputaion, availability and dependability are factors to consider. Mostly you need to determine your needs to the best of your ability which is probably going to miss the mark if you've never owned a tractor of this size before on this piece of property but still try.
Once you've determined your needs then find a tractor that will fill those needs that is priced in your budget.
I've bought 13 Kubotas and zero kiotis so I don't know anything about them as is the case with most people since there are very few Kioti dealers and alot of them are guys with feed stores or car lots or hardware stores selling them. There are also real tractor dealerships selling them but they are fairly new (compared to the other tractor brands) to the USA tractor market which doesn't have anything to do with their dependability but does reduce the people that have actual experience with them. This also reduces their resale value in case you pick the wrong one.
You don't want to bring a truck to a Sports Car Rally even though the truck is bigger.

Mr. Thomas is correct. Bigger isn't always better. I wish I could have kept my B7800 when I traded up. It would do all I ever asked of it, except keep me warm in winter.:D My GL 3540 HSTC is sweet but it won't go where the 7800 did.
As for Kiotis, some have a tendency to tear themselves apart with their hydraulics. Freind of mine is a machinist and he fixes quite a few of them, never sees a Kubota in his shop. Just my 2c Cdn.

As mentioned, "Bigger isn't 'always' better, sometimes it is just bigger." As the qualifier states though, sometimes bigger is better and having owned two BX's and still owning one, I would not pick one for eight acres. I would go with just about any of the B's though the B2630/B3030/B3000 are my favorites.

It would be helpful to provide a description of your property and for what you intend to use your new tractor.

I have had experience with kubota and own a kioti. I purchased a kioti because of price, I saved about 13K. I'm very pleased with Kioti's performance. I have many hours on a kubota also. They both operate similar. If I were making a living with my tractor I would have bought a Kubota. They have much better parts distribution and dealer network. Hope this helps.

I forsee digging a pond, for fishing
Cutting grass with a finishing mower and general yard work
Pulling stumps
Digging post holes
Small garden work

It is 8 acres with about 3 cleared for yard
The rest has planted pines

It's all flat with no wet areas

I am thinking 30+ hp
With some grunt on the pto
Fel
Finishing mower
Broadcaster

Down the road a post hole digger and back hoe (if the Ol lady doesn't work out)

Sorry couldn't help it

For that, I would be looking at one of the larger L Models, my preference is a Grand L, but the others are also good. Having recently spent some time moving dirt with a M8540 and L5030 together, I would not even attempt to dig a pond and would hire someone to do so. My son in law recently contracted for some dozer work for $80 per hour and that is the route we took when we built our ponds.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you choose to buy.

While bigger is not necessarily better, it IS bigger. You get the advantages of a tractor with a FEL that can lift more, can take a bigger bite with each shovel scoop, with a 3pt hitch that will tow implements with a higher HP rating, and will cover a greater swath. As you scale up the land to be worked, it's reasonable to scale up the tools that your going to use to address the larger land size.

Many of the choirs that you've described, like pulling stumps, are better addressed with more HP and more weight, rather then less. Other tasks like the digging of a pond could be dug faster. If it were me, I'd look larger.
