Maybe I'll try "insisting" on getting the other generator too. Worth a try. The dealer I'm buying from has been very good to work with so far.

I picked up my tractor yesterday and have put a few hours on it. Very nice. Anyway, the dealer gave me the old generator without me even asking. I wanted it for a spare if the big one gave out. The larger generator comes with a new bracket, belt and dipstick due to its larger size. The old one is tiny. See the attachment. Using it for a spare would require using the original belt and bracket. I'll post a picture of the new one, mounted too.

Here is a shot of the 40 Amp generator, shown installed. It is very distinct from the original 14.5 Amp generator. It takes up about twice the volume. Also, the voltage regulator is built in to the larger generator. With the smaller generator, it was separate and mounted under the hood on the left side, rear of the engine compartment.

Those pictures will certainly answer any questions as to whether anyone got the larger alternator on their machine!
I did not realize that the shorter dip stick was part of the upgrade kit. Thanks for that info! Wish my dealer had given me the smaller alternator like yours did.../w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

TBN is about the best forum I've been involved with, regardless of topic. The engineering and computer oriented forums I've been involved with can be a bit less polite and the users more egocentric. TBN is a refreshing change! I really like the build-it-yourself section, especially the pictures.

Redding2410 - thanks for taking the time to secure the photographs of the standard and optional alternators. There is no doubt now that I have the larger one installed. Really appreciate your help---hope you enjoy your 2410 in 2003!
