My cutter is NOT wider than my rear track, but then again it's not wider than the front bucket either. Of course I can always raise the bucket. The obvious disadvantage is that I can't cut that close to the fence line. I generally drive the line with the bucket elevated and the rear tires as close as I can get. My thought is that I couldn't get "under" the fence even if I had a 6 foot cutter. So I'm leaving about 10" of grass next to the fence line, but I'd still leave a few inches if I had a 6 foot cutter as well. Based on that thought, either way I still have grass at the fence line. Seems it doesn't really make a difference either way.

By the way, welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got a 3130 hst with the 723 loader and bh 90 backhoe. I bought the bh90 because it was a frame mount unit, overall I'm happy with the combo. I would definately get a frame mounted backhoe, it's very easy to remove and install, and it is solidly mounted to the tractor. It doesn't shake and wiggle like a 3 point mounted backhoe. I use a 6' rotary cutter and I think it works fine. When I cut grass that is as tall as my head when I'm sitting on the tractor, I have to move slowly. Any grass that is waist high or shorter is no problem at all. Brush, no matter how tall, is chipped up quickly. Get the heavy duty bucket with cutting edge, I bent the "loaner" standard duty bucket while I was waiting for my HD bucket to arrive. HST, HST, HST! I hated the hst pedal at the dealership and almost bought a GST, luckily I found this site before I purchased my tractor. In my opinion the hst is the only way to go! If you are buying the tractor for homeowner type work I think you'll be happy with it.

"I hated the hst pedal at the dealership and almost bought a GST, luckily I found this site before I purchased my tractor."

Why? Do you still dislike the pedal style? What on this site convinced you to like HST and overcome the pedal hatred? HST is great. Perhaps you were/are using the pedal incorrectly. Are you putting your entire foot on it? I think the best way is to only place your toe or heel but not both on it. I have found I have better control with the rocker pedal over my JD mower with twin pedals when the ground is rough, other then that, I'm indifferent and can easily work either style and do not have a huge preference over either. At work today I used a shuttle tractor moving rock. Its very nice but I yearned for my HST tractor. It's that good! Rat...

Thanks for your input folks... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Kubota 4-wheel-drive 3130 configuration I've decided on is...
-the "better" 723 loader... with the heavy-duty round-back bucket with quick detach and replacable cutting edge...
-Kubota 9' BH90 backhoe... 16" or 18" bucket...
-Gear transmission (FST/DT)... I'm not giving up the foot throttle ! The hydrostatic drive is excellent though...
-Turf or R4 tires... rear's loaded...
-Curtis soft-sided cab with heater & 4 individually switched work lights...
-3 chain grab hooks welded to loader bucket top...
-tire valve stem protectors...
-Horn kit... LOL...

Just gotta sell my low-hour... 4-WD Deere 750 with loader, backhoe, snowplow first...

Thanks again...

Consider the R4's over the turf if your likely to encounter sticks etc. The R4's are considerably tougher. Woods also makes a nice hoe for this model. The 9000. Gear drive is great and Kubotas is very smooth.

Do you need the QA for the bucket or just future plans. It's a great idea however it also puts your CG about 6" forward reducing the lift and curl ability. (My dealer mentioned this to me)

P.S. my neigbor would like to sell his brand new looking JD 790 for the L3130 HST.

Hi...

Thanks for the heads-up on the quick attach bucket... no real need for it now... 3 dealers kinda strongly recommend it... so I figure... why not... but maybe the ~$300 is best left in my pocket... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hey ! Icat !!! You got a free hat ! My dealer said there was no such thing ! Other than that I'm more than just a bit pleased with my choice of machines /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif John
PS High range seems to suit no useful purpose other than beat you up /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Of course I don't have a road to travel on /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I load my bucket with 4 trash cans, put the recyclables (cans, newspapers) on top of the rotary cutter, and then use the High range to move everything down my 1/4 mile driveway to trash pickup at the other end.

I've noticed that the steering tends to get a little sloppy when traveling at 16+ MPH. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
