Kubota 3240 vs 3940. Worth the extra $$$

I started with a 3130 and liked it. But with 25 acres I wanted a 6' bushhog. Both for getting the mowing done faster but also to get closer to the fences. With the width of the tires I was unable to get close enough with the 5' bushhog. But in even moderately brush the 3130 didn't do well with the 6'. So with 100 hours on it I traded it for a 5030 and absolutely love it.

At risk of stating the obvious, 25 acres is a whole lot more than 5 acres. The OP has only a 5 acre plot. A 30hp tractor with 5ft implements would seem perfectly adequate for that size.

I really appreciate all the advice, and I think you guys are right about that size tractor with 5 acres, but There are two plots of land next to me I have my eye on picking up. That will put me at about 14 acres. Also, I will be maintaining a MX track, and really wanted the extra weight to move bigger buckets of dirt.

Anyway. I wouldn't call it Karma, but I think the perfect deal came in the door yesterday. A guy that though he was going to do all of his landscape business work with a tractor traded in a very low hour 2007 3540 with 724FEL and BH75 backhoe.

Here is what I got for $24,955
2007 3540 HST (almost 2 years left on warranty and 56 total hours)
R4 Tires (Industrial)
LA724 FEL with skid steer quick connects.
BH75 Back Hoe SubFrame mount with the quick connect
Brush Bar
Front Remotes/hyd (for whatever, I guess he planed on a 4n1)
Bush Hog 285 with Laminate tire and chains (NEW)
Bush Hog SBX720 Box Scraper (NEW)
Tooth Bar on bucket (NEW)

Does that sound like a good deal?

Sounds pretty good to me. Given that the Bush Hog would cost almost 2K the box blade another grand, the tooth bar 350, front remotes installed at least 600-700 that means you got about $4000-$5000 in new implements which means you paid about 20K for the TLB with 56 hrs on it. That must have cost about 25-27 new so that seems like a pretty good deal and you saved at least 5000 from walking into a dealership to buy it new. 56 hours is nothing (do check to see if the machine is due for its 50hr service though...it would be nice if that had been done as that will cost you about 500 unless you do it yourself. Also, whoever the guy was, he had good taste in implements and tractors so he saved you some leg work.

The Front Remotes were on the machine when it was traded in, so it is not new, but had never been used.

The dealership has the tractor in service today checking everything out and completely changing all the fluids and filter, greasing it up, and doing anything else that is needed for the 50 hour service.

I think I am happy with the deal, but like everyone else, I am not going to be completely happy until I sit on it, knock out some jobs, and get that smile on my face.

It is a very nice setup, you should be very happy for years to come. You might want to look into getting a QA adapter for the loader and adding a light duty 48 inch grapple to your implement collection. That would make land clearing much faster.
