Kubota 54" MMM Overall External Width

The designer got back to me and said that going to a 6' wide garage door shouldn't be a problem - it's not a common size. The other good news is that the 6' door will fit without having to increase the width of the garage. The additional 12 inches also allows for a 60" MMM, with the discharge chute up, if I want to go in that direction. It's good news all around.

The 54" vs 60" debate has raged on here since the beginning of time! LOL it goes something like this.... the 54" will be more maneuverable because it will fit in more places, plus its smaller and lighter making it easier to take off and put on..... The 60" is better for trimming close because it sticks out further and let's you get real close, also it covers more ground quicker saving mowing time. It used to be that the 60" had a self balancing mechanism to help prevent scalping which the 54" didn't have but I don't know if that is still the case. I'm sure I left some " important" points out and expect others to chime in. ;-)

I'm of the 60" camp btw.

Go with a common door. you need the rops clearance. 9x7 doesnt fit the TLB BX's, but I think they fit 4 digit BX like yours. Why 9x7? its a common size and if you break it or need to replace/fix it, you dont need to order it. you can run to lowes or home depot and pick one up and install it the same day. under 200 bucks you can get a garage door. odd sizes cost more so its cheaper for you in short and long run.

I hear what you are saying about the 54" vs. 60" debates and I'm in the 60" camp with you. Now that I know that I can get a 6' wide garage door it's pretty much a done deal with the 60" MMM. The only thing right now that may persuade me to go with a 54" is the property. The lot is very flat, but the first 165' is SOLID bush and trees. Until we remove the bush and thin out the trees it's just too difficult right now to make that decision. A 54" may make more sense if manoeuvrability becomes an issue.

Can anyone confirm if the new 54" MMMs have the self balancing wheels that the 60" models have?

The original house plans called for a good sized 24' x 26' double car garage. Both doors were 9' x 8' (see post #7). I did convince my wife that we really needed at minimum a 2 1/2 car garage - a three car garage was not going to happen. So the garage grew to 30' x 26'. All three door heights were always 8' tall. The additional height was mostly for aesthetics due to the elevation of the house, but having a taller door could also prove to be useful.

I agree that standard sized doors are less expensive. But I don't believe that replacing a standard door will be that much (if any) faster to get. Whatever sized door is chosen, and it needs replacing for whatever reason, I'm sure I'm looking a custom order to match the other existing doors (size, colour, material, design, windows, insulation, etc.). Besides it's not very often that you hear that someone had to replace their garage door.
