I am new to this forum and joined it since I am about to buy a B6200 (mid 80s) w/ loader (asking price is $5500., maybe I'll get it for $5200.-; looks fiarly good on a photo sent by the seller).
However, the thing doesn't have power steering and with a loader that means haevy work. So I wonder if anyone has ideas about retrofitting this trctor with power steering? I saw a few old threads (2003) who lead me nowehere.
If it is an HST the pump will not have enough volume for proper operation of a powersteering unit.
I have a B7100 HST. It would be easy to take a recirculating ball power steering unit from an older chevy and mount it where the present steering box sits. When I talked to our local dealer, a very good one, the service manager advised me against trying to add power steering as all hydraulic functions would be very slow and I'd not be happy. He had seen previous powere steering kits installed on this tractor and most owners were not impressed.

Mischa- this is a question that I answer about once a year. I have a B8200, similar to the 6200 you're looking at. I was lucky in that I found a "new" old stock Kubota kit (from Kubota USA) for adding power steering. Cost was about $750. Basically, it was a set of hoses, a link control valve that works off the pitman arm from the steering box, and a power cylinder (which replaces the steering link), with appropriate hardware and lines. Took me part of a day to install, works great, and looks like it will last a long as any other part of the tractor. I don't think it takes enough of the hydraulic pump's output to be an issue. Finding one for your tractor will be the hardest part. I posted some fotos of my installation a couple of years ago. Varmint.
