I posted this on the kubota owning and operating thread but also felt it might be good here also. it is email response from kubota about the use of 15w-40 in tractors that the manuals don't list it as recommended.

has fallen a bit behind current technology and recent developments in the
field of lubricants. Actually, the recommendations published in our
operator's manuals is in the process of being updated to reflect industry
changes. Using a 15W-40 grade oil should pose no problems as long as it is
a high quality lubricant specified by it's vendor of meeting the
requirements of a compact diesel engine. Your warranty is not affected as
long as a specific engine failure is not the result of the improper
lubricant being used in your application. Seek a reliable vendor who can
provide a solid recommendation of his product. Again, thanks for contacting
