Does anyone know the bucket capacity for a Kubota B21?
I added an ATI quick attach therefore I need to get a skid steer bucket and I want to know roughly the current weight and capacity of the std B21 bucket. The weight is no so critical since I am assuming the weights are roughly the same

Thanks

.3 yard heaped.

The quick attach will reduce the lift capacity by its weight.

Skid steer buckets are often built heavier than the B21 bucket.

I would be interested in seeing pictures and hearing how you like the quick attach.

I would watch out about how much weight the new setup is. The B21's lift capacity is just under 900# IIRC. I had some round bales of hay that it could not lift.

You will want to look at the dimensions of the bucket also. Skid steer buckets are normally deeper, front to back, and the farther your cutting edge is from the pivot point the less curl strength you will have. That can be a big deal on a smaller tractor.

It sure would be cheaper to have QA brackets welded to the stock bucket.

That sounds like a good idea to me.

The weight of the light duty bucket from Berlon Industries is estimated at 285 lbs. The size of the skid steer bucket is .34 cubic yards so not that much bigger than current bucket. The width is 54 inches so again, pretty close to size of my current bucket. If I had a 500lb fish scale, I would weight my current bucket - I am willing to bet it is easily over 200 lbs. The weight of the attachment bracket is going to be 40 to 60 lbs so everything is pretty close. Yes, the weight of the ATI quick attach is around 60 lbs so I do loose that. My intention is to bump up the loader lifting capacity by 10% or so in order to compensate for the additional weight - will this put more stress on my tractor, of coarse it will. My personal observation is that each loader arm is capable of lifting more than 2 heavy persons from Wisconsin (500 lbs). I am willing to take the risk on the additional stress. I just took a look at the B26 which is capable of 1300 lbs. I do not see a signficant differnence in the loader arm design - weight delta is less than 200 lbs.

As far as the quick attach, I am having some minor issues with it along with a skid steer to 3pt attachment that the company I bought it from thinks it was made incorrectly. When I finally get the minor issues sorted out, I think I will be really happy with having forks, a front snow blower, bucket and hopefully the ability to attach a front harley rake

Regarding the costs.

So a new light duty skid steer bucket is $450 - no freight since they are 10mins from me. If I go the adapter plate with my current bucket, the plate costs $105 - Delta of roughly $350. To save the $350, I have to torch off the brackets, weld on the adapter plate which as you know, is likely not going to be able to be welded as close to the bucket as the Skid steer bucket. My inital thought before buying the skid steer bucket is to try to sell my stock Kubota bucket. If I can get $250 or more for my bucket, then is it worth doing all the work to save $100? How many hours would I have it the conversion? To me, it is not worth the $100 savings. That is my 2 cents

If it helps, according to the owners manual the factory bucket weighs 212 lbs. Dimensions are, Width 56.26 in, Length 19.94 in., Height 19.16 in.. Capacities are, Struck 6.40 cu. ft. and Heaped 8.10 cu. ft..

Thanks MarkV - That information is help full. The mount is 45 lbs so the total weight is around 250 where as the other bucket will be high 200's.

The berlon bucket is 10.4 cubic feet therefore signifcantly larger capacity than the stock bucket.

I think I will give the berlon bucket a shot.

Thanks again

I see in one of your posts you are going to have a front mount snow blower. I had a B21 for 6 years and I purchased the Horst Welding quick attach with the machine. It was great to be able to switch from bucket to forks but I always wanted a front mount snow blower and was not able to find one. Can you provide me with any details on your front mount snow blower?

I traded my B21 for a B26 a little over a year ago and as you may know it comes with the QA so I was able to use my old forks. One tip I will give you with the after market QA as watch the pin positions. The original one from Horst really reduced my roll back angle and I had to return it to have it adjusted. I would check your stock dump and roll back angles and compare them to what you have with the aftermarket setup when you are done.

For what its worth the dealer cut the Kubota brackets off my factory bucket and welded the Horst mounting plate to the Kubota bucket and it worked fine for me. I know that with a heaped bucket of dirt in my B21 bucket it was tough to lift it above 4' - 5' into my dumping trailer so I would be careful about getting a larger after market bucket.
