Kubota B21's

Re: Kubota B21\'s

Why would you want to take off the FEL? If you're going to put a blade on, then just take off the bucket? What other reasons would you need to take one off for? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'm just asking, not challengeing people's posts.

The B21 is a unique machine or TLB designed more for the contractor/rental market. It’s rated 21HP & 13.5HP on the PTO. I believe the lower PTO number is due to the larger capacity hydraulic pump. Anyway, the primary purpose is the TLB configuration where higher flow rate is desirable.

Compared to the B7500 the B21 is longer by a 1”, 60” vs. 59”, and is much wider at 54” vs. 42”. The B21 is a little heavier at 2381lbs vs. 1962lbs, but with the FEL & BH installed the weight is 4067lbs. Both the FEL & BH mount onto a massive sub-frame that makes for a neat/strong integration.

Probably because of the price! At 25K you can get a much bigger compact tractor. They are also hard to find on the used market.

I bought the B21 because my needs are more for excavation & clearing on very steep slopes. The B21 has a lower CG and is little wider than most compact tractors. I also liked the sub-frame mounting of the FEL & BH. Everything I do pushes it to the limit.

After 89 hours of seat time I’m very happy with the B21.

Here are some pictures:

Some people might think I need a bigger machine. I thought about the L35 but it does not have an HST available – not good on the slopes. The L48 is very nice and would definitely speed things up but it was hard to justify the cost. Since I have the time the B21 gets the job done. Oh yeah, the canopy & lights are nice too…

Re: Kubota B21\'s

The B21 is really quite different from the aguie tractors that Kubota makes. It is a heavy duty frame and all the components are rated much heavier duty. The B21 is also compliant with OSHA standards for construction site work i.e. ROPS and FOPS, horn etc. I think the main reason you don't see alot of people with is that a tractor in a similar size is almost half the price of a B21. My local dealer says the going rate is about $29,000 if he could get one from Kubota. This TLB really compares more to a 30Hp tractor in power and capability. I have been really impressed with what it can do for its size. However, it is geared more to the commercial user versus homeowner. Love my B21!!!

Re: Kubota B21\'s

The fact that the gas, electric, and phone companies in our area - along with two local rental companies - have B21s was one of the major reasons I purchased mine. The heavier duty body was probably the reason why they not only held their value, but in at least 2 sales of 8 year old B20s in 1998, they sold for more than they originally cost.
A landscaper in my area outfitted an approx 20 HP Kubota farm tractor with a backhoe and quick-attach bucket. While he lost only 100 lbs in capacity with the bucket changes and could make appropriate adjustments, the light duty backhoe was problematic because it was often overmatched and because it put quite a strain on the frame. I'm not competent to assess what the backhoe is doing to the tractor as a whole. But, the entire tractor is "audio-visually" under much more stress than my B21 when using the backhoe.
