Kubota B2772 63\" Snowblower

I just found a (older ?) used B2772 rear mount snowblower for what I think might be a relatively cheap price - $1664 USD. It is in like new condition - attached is a pic.

Only problem is that is quite aways away (1500 mi) so I would have to have it shipped in. Any thoughts on the price - reasonable ? (considering it's a Kubota)

Re: Kubota B2772 63\" Snowblower

Way overpriced for a used unit.

For that price I'll bet you could find a new 64" Puma or some other brand locally. Most dealers get new ones in September and some may even have leftovers that they might part with cheaper. My 64" Puma cost $1799 with a manual chute rotator. Add $200 for hydraulic rotator.

When you figure in shipping or even driving to get it you come out ahead by buying locally, plus you will have dealer support.

Mad,

Yeah I know it was a little high for a used aftermarket blower - I just thought it might be reasonable for a Kubota unit. I haven't priced them - was talked out of it by my dealer. He's in an area (western end of Lake Erie) that gets much less snow than here apparently (I'm just at the southern of the Lake Erie snowbelt - 20 miles north of me and there is significantly much more snowfall than even here) His suggestion was just to clear it with the FEL. With the possibility of having to clear up to 1000'+ of road/driveway (depending on whether the township decides to plow our road) I think I'd rather blow it than try to use the FEL.

I read the thread on the Provonost P-740 - looked like a sweet piece - although I'd most likely go with one of the Pumas too. There aren't any Provonost dealers near me (none listed for the state of Ohio, closest one appears to be over 300 miles away) but I will check around locally for used or leftover blowers and see what I can find.

I wouldn't talk you out of it considering your use, but I would suggest that you try talking the seller down to a more reasonable price. Trying to keep a 1000' driveway clear with a FEL is like digging a cellar hole with a shovel. It can be done, but it wouldn't be practical for very long. Sounds like your dealer would rather you go without, than have you purchase something somewhere else. Possibly he thinks that once the snow is flying, that you will get disgusted with trying to use the FEL and come to him during the hight of the season and buy a new one at full list, just because he has one in stock. (Call me a cyanic!) I would think that 50% of new would be a fair price and a good starting point. I paid $1000 for the blower for my BX and a new one costs $2400 / $2700 installed from the dealers around here, and $2000 picked up in the box from the parts department. This is what I am basing my 50% figure on. Depending on scarcity and time of year, that figure can go up. Even if you pay 75%, you will still save $500, plus tax by buying used. In another month, that unit will start having more interest as we get closer to the snow season. If you really want a blower and it fits your tractor, try to work out a deal with the seller and have him pay the shipping as part of the deal. Also check around with some of the local dealers and see how much you can buy a new one for. Assembly isn't very much and you should be able to complete it in a afternoon from what I have read in the instruction manual. I have been told by dealers that the assembly takes from 4 to 10 hours for the BX. I just wonder how many of the 10 hours is devoted to lunch and coffee breaks?????..... LOL....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Just remember, it doesn't cost anything to negotiate, but time and a telephone call.

That's worth a try - however I don't know how willing they will be to do that since they would have to dissemble an already assembled blower and crate it for shipping. And they aren't a Kubota dealer (JD) so they probably aren't familiar with this specific unit (although most of them are pretty similar.) But who knows ?

Yup - my feeling exactly. It's a bit of an odd situation - my actual driveway will only be about 500' - 600' long (once I get done relocating it.) The rest of it is actually a township road - but we are the only house on the road - used to be that we were entirely responsible for all maintainence for the entire thing - it had been that way for 30 years. In the last couple of years the township started to take some interest ..... and will periodically plow it ..... sometimes .... maybe ..... anyways, you get the picture. Even so, I don't think I really want to use the FEL on even 500' or 600' - and if they aren't real quick about getting around to plowing it, I know for sure I don't want to do another 500' or 600' in addition to my drive.

LOL - you are a cynic ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously, I don't know that he even carries them at all - I didn't see any (used or new) when we bought back at the end of May - and I got the full tour of all the back rooms and the building that the business was in back in the '40's (?) which is now the storage shed for all crated stock that hasn't been assembled yet - though it could be he just sold all he had last season.

That's for a front-mount blower correct ? (I originally thought this one was a front-mount which was what attrached me to it in the first place - wasn't until I got an email back on it that I found out it was rear-mount)

( Even if you pay 75%, you will still save $500, plus tax by buying used. )

Yup - $500 is $500 .... would almost pay for the running gear for the dump cart I want to build.

Good idea - I'll see what I can swing on it.

( Also check around with some of the local dealers and see how much you can buy a new one for. )

Will do - I'm also emailing the dealer where I bought my tractor. He may be able to do something like I did on the backhoe where he just had it shipped directly to me from the manufacturer.

( Assembly isn't very much and you should be able to complete it in a afternoon from what I have read in the instruction manual. )

Yeah ....... I'm sure I can put it together in a couple of hours. It took me about a day and half to do the backhoe - but that was largely because I didn't really have the best set up for lifting it - at around 900 pounds it wasn't the easiest thing to manipulate.

( I have been told by dealers that the assembly takes from 4 to 10 hours for the BX. I just wonder how many of the 10 hours is devoted to lunch and coffee breaks?????..... LOL...... )

Pretty wide range there ...... the 10 hours must be for the high school kid who has to do it three times before he gets it right. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Totally true - and thanks for the thoughts on it.

Re: Kubota B2772 63\" Snowblower

Guess that I didn't notice that you mentioned that it was a rear mount. I wouldn't even consider a rear mount. If you think getting it to Ohio is a pain in the neck, then wait till you start blowing snow down that 600' driveway. Look for a front mount if at all possible. I know that a lot of people here have a rear mount and love it, but it is still going backwards, no matter how you look at it. I can see a rear mount for small drives, but not one for your drive.

Re: Kubota B2772 63\" Snowblower

Junkman is right, get a front mount if you can. I had a Lucknow 60" rear mount blower that came with my B2710 when I got it. It worked fine on the drive (only 280') but was a real pain in the neck when doing the ice rink. I traded even for a Kubota 60" front mount! what a big difference! One of the best thinks about the front mounts is having down pressure. You can scrape the ice off the drive right down to the blacktop. The rear mount would float on top of that thin layer of ice. Plus it sure is a lot easier on the neck when going forward. Now if only I had that heated cab! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Kubota B2772 63\" Snowblower

Junkman,

I hear on the frontmount vs. rearmount - I'm currently finding it somewhat uncomfortable even just turning in the seat to scope out what's going when I'm box blading (a little older and stiffer than I used to be.) /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There's no doubt that I would really prefer a frontmounted unit - the cost factor is what has held me back. I don't recall exactly what the price was for a 60" frontmount when I talked to the dealer about it - but I know it wasn't cheap (it was several thousands) - maybe 2x -3x of the cheapest rearmount one could get.

I currently have a Cub Cadet 782 (small lawn tractor) with a 48" single stage frontmount blower. It's been less than totally useful because even though I had chains for it, we never got around to coming up with ballasting for the rear wheels. Once the driveway got icy it would just sit there and spin. Anyways, at the moment, the Cub is a project (not running) - one that I would prefer to avoid for the time being /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We usually don't get a huge amount of snow here where I live - the average annual snowfall is about 48 inches. But there are years where we get more and ones where get less - plus ya can get almost a quarter of that average snowfall in a single storm sometimes.

Re: Kubota B2772 63\" Snowblower

Von,

I read the entire thread on your swap. It was in fact what prompted me to try to search the internet for a used Kubota frontmount. I thought I had one until I got the email back from the dealer.

I did actually run across a used frontmount - before I purchased the tractor while I was looking for used tractors .... of course the link is now long gone. I did just find a new L2174 frontmount (62", fits L-series) on a site - the MSRP is listed as $5443.00 ..... ouch ! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Was special ordered for a customer that then bought a larger tractor. No asking price (says to call) - but how much cheaper could it be ? Even at 50% it would still be pretty pricey for me .....

Here's to finding that heated cab /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
