Kubota b2910 v Deere 4210

Del,
That was a great reply. Very detailed and informative. Iliked the objective review - including the little things you don't like.

Should help the original poster as well as others who read it.

"Kind of like up a notch or down a notch thing...."

Good point there, I looked at NH and JD and Kubota and the closest match I found to the 4210 was the TC-29D. Not to be critical of the NH, but it seemed too short, narrow and tall compared to the JD. It had more PTO hp in the HST version but that wasn't important to me. Del makes some good points about what he does not like about his 4210 but I never noticed the seatbelt, the difficult key position, yes. The only gripe I have about mine is when I use the rear blade, the 3 point lever is way back, it's hard to steer in reverse while looking over my shoulder and adjusting the height. Very awkward, but it's likely a common problem for other tractor makes.

"Recently I got to use a 3430 with the much revered boomarang pedal. Are you people NUTS? That thing is Terrible!!!! "

I like it. I think it's TERRIFIC. But I also like my twin pedal on a JD F510 mower, I must be a whole lot more adaptable though then Mike or Del. I do find that on rough terrain, the Kubota pedal is easier for me to control. Perhaps you guys are putting your whole foot on it or your really tight in the joints, either way, very few of us who have own Kubotas find the pedal a problem except a few mention that they are uncomfortable with it at first until they get to understand it and then find it's design advantageous. Either way, I personally would not find either setup objectionable. I would be more then happy knowing I had a nice HST sitting underneath. Rat...

No one rambles on like I do. Once or twice something even
makes sense! I keep waiting to get a message deleted due to
excessive bandwith use!/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I had mentioned the ankle problem I had with the Kubota Go-Pedal,
that had been discussed by others before, one who mentioned he
felt that the Kubota pedal was safer as you'd never hit the
wrong pedal.

Sometimes when I first get on the JD I would have to think
for a second but now I keep something in my head I related
to digging in a pile.

Go IN Back OUT (forward is INNER pedal, backward is OUTER
pedal) With this in my head I have found I never hit the wrong
pedal even once.

I did this when I rented an excavator. The digging controls are
plumbed differently so the two levers don't do the same things!
All those hours on my backhoe were fighting me!Talk about
"Look at Joe Goofball on that machine!" I had phrase
I created while using the machine related to hand motion
and kept saying it to myself. Pretty soon I was
operating it OK.

At least OK enough for open field stump digging, would never
want to be near ANYTHING I might not want to destroy with an
excavator that is rented once or twice a year!

Rockyridgefarm,

There was something on the Ehydro that was about $45-50,
maybe it was the "SpeedMatch?" That might have been what
I was thinking of.

One thing I forgot to mention, if you decide on the 4210,
make sure you get one made in December after JD changed
the hydraulic pump. JD is now installing the same pump
as on the 4310. Steering is still 5.3 gpm, implement pump
is 8.6 gpm, was 7.0 a 23% increase. Loader is very fast
a backhoe and various other implements would also benefit.

Thanks for all the response.

I was asking about weight wondering if the Deere had something the Kubota did not, like a beefier frame or stonger mechanicals.

Del mentioned the New Holland TC29-30-33 siblings. From the web site it looks like these tractors have less choices for implements than their smaller or larger brothers. I don't remember a front mount snow blower being available. Is there some difference in their construction or design where they don't lend themselves to front implements?

I have a lot of driveway and a lot of snow. A front snowblower is a must.

I haven't been able to drive a NH yet. The local dealership keeps shorter hours and caters mostly to commercial customers. (They also sell Bobcat and seem to focus on that)

Seperate issue. I'm used to the loader control on the Deere 4200 I have on long term loan. The Kubota joystick appears to be located up on the loader frame. It looks like it would be uncomfortable. The deere and the NH look like they are in a more natural position in relation to your arm. Any thoughts from those of you who use them?

Thanks again,

John

The loader control for my 4210/420 FEL is excellently placed for my purposes. It's a near perfect position for my 5' 8" size.

John, I was very happy with the position of the loader control on my Kubotas. I liked them a little better than the position control on my cousin's New Holland, and I haven't used a loader on a Deere CUT, . . . But . . . , I suspect for many of us, including myself, it's mostly just a matter of which one you're accustomed to. But if in doubt, take time to think about it, because you want the tractor that "feels best" to you instead of what any of us think is best.

John, I can address your question about the position of the FEL Joystick. When I was looking a few months ago I thought the JD had the best position by the seat just where you hand fell. After having bought a Kubota with the joystick next to the steering wheel and using for a while now I like the fact that both my hands are close together. If I lean forward in the seat, to look at the bucket or that branch that might impale me, my hands are always close together. I guess it is whatever you get use to and I don't see any great advantage or disadvantage of either. I do like the HST because I do not have to remove my hands from the joystick or the steering wheel when changing direction, I can operate ever thing simultaneously. The Kubota HST pedal is not a problem unless you try to operate it by putting you heal on the reverse end of the pedal when you push the front of the pedal to go forward. Just keep you heal on the floorboard naturally when going forward. It won't feel any different than stepping on the accelerator of your vehicle.
