g42guy,
Not to belabor the point, but nobody ever said you couldn't do a lot of work with a 2WD. Your own comment here is a little contradictory. First you say that 4WD will let you get more done, give you more power, then say that not having it isn't limiting. Huh? (I need to figure out how to do one of those fancy smiley things here, but for now,
I agree with you that 4WD drive is not mandatory, and I could even see that many people would be quite happy with 2WD and never have a need for it. But for some people, a tractor in this size range would be useless without it. I have a BX2200, and it won't go up our back gravel driveway with a load unless in 4WD. In 4WD, it doesn't even hesitate. I have some slopes that it wouldn't even go up in 4WD, which is why I have an ATV also (alas, no FEL, but can still haul a trailer).
One of the things I am most impressed with on TBN is that most questions of "what should I buy" are first answered with "what do you need to do." If somebody's situation wouldn't benefit from 4WD, then they certainly shouldn't consider it a must-have. It might help with resale later on, but when you are talking about a used machine in the first place, I doubt that it's a big deal.
Kevin
BTW. Congratualations on your BX1800 decision. I think you will be quite pleased with it.
