The overflow tube does not have anything on the end of it at all.

I think this is an early to mid 1980's model.

I did put a new radiator cap on and haven't had a chance to operate the tractor much since then ( my father-in-law had possession and was happily working away with it ), I will have to pay attention once I get back to using it and see if the new radiator cap did the trick. I think the old one was put on at the factory from the looks of the rubber seal.

It is currently in the shop getting the retro-fit ROPS bar put on it, my wife and I tried to put it on ourselves for a couple hours but they didn't get the holes lined up very well for the bolts that have to go thru the ROPS bar into the gear case so I took it to the shop.

The shop did tell me that I managed to mess up the first half inch of threads in the differential gear case attempting to put the bolts in that ROPS bar but they were able to tap and clean them up thank goodness.

Try one more thing: Fill it up, and work it thru a normal week. Let it cool, then open the cap and measure how far down it is. Do not refill it at that time. Work it again for a week. Let it cool and check again. If it has no overflow, I would bet it is going to puke some out due to expansion with temp increase the first time you run it, then it will contract back down. And the next time you run it, it will again expand but since it has already overflowed the amount "extra", it should overflow much less or none at all (depending on temp changes). My point is, it may reach equilibrium. And hopefully when it does, the radiator is still 90% full for normal cooling. Keep an eye on the temp. All our older tractors acted just like I described above, since they did not have an expansion/overflow tank, they needed to puke out a little if you filled them right up. After that, they stabilized.
By the way, you can use any polyethelene container you can find to fit and mount for the overflow. It needs the tube from the radiator cap to extend to near the bottom of the expansion/overflow container, so it can suck the coolant back in when the system is cooling. Also, mount the container within 10" above or 10" below the level of the top of your cooling system, so it can function properly.

It appears that the coolant level is staying constant in my tractor after all. I guess the new radiator cap I put on a while back took care of the excessive overflow. I operated the tractor several hours over the last week and the coolant level remained constant.

Thanks for all the responses.

Can anyone verify this? Have you checked your B7100 levels (or other thermo-siphon machine)?

I'm replacing the cap and hoses on my B7100 and am confused about this - it seems like without an expansion/overflow tank the system has to be "less than full" to accomodate expansion - but without knowing i'm hesitant to just see a low coolant level and assume it's all good.

I've had a B7100 since it was new in 1993 and I never mess with the coolant level. Just fill it up, let it puke out any extra and you are good to go until you replace the coolant or you develop a leak. Back in the day, this is the way all cars and trucks were - no overflow tank.

okay the initial puke out is normal - you've seen that - makes sense. thanks.

do you know how low "normal" looks like when you look down the neck with the cap removed?
is it still in the neck or down in the radiator somewhat?

As I recall, it covers the core but is not up to the very top of the opening.
