I decided on a trial run with a couple of hardwood boards to support the tires. I think the system shows potential, but it will need improvement before I get under the tractor.

A conversation with the parts guy at Wegeant's Farm Supply confirmed my suspicion that the tractor's wheels have too much flex for safe support on the hoist. Taking a photo is one thing, but putting torque on a breaker bar is another. He suggested chaining the front to the hoist and lifting it up enough to gain access to the mower. Worked fine. Changing the blades and washers was a fifteen minute job.

I would suggest adding something like jackstands or some blocks to protect you if the lift or chains have a problem. Just something to take some of the load if that setup drops.. I spent an hour under my finish mower last night because the bolt holding the middle blade would not loosen (not even with impact).. I finally was able to get a cheater pipe on a breaker bar and hold the blade enough to loosen, then the impact took it right off.

I have two sets of blades, plan is to rotate them (sharpen the ones I take off at my leisure rather than when I am rushed wanting to get the mowing done).

I went and had a look at the pictures you linked to above. The chain arrangement looks much more stable than the planks! that is downright scary looking!

Great search! I didn't know the right words to ask, I guess.

Thanks,

Dump the planks. We made a set up in our shop just for that purpose. used 3/8 plate and fabricated 4 mounts that the tires sit in hooked to the arms. this way they were adjustable and we could use on a variety of equipment. A fab shop could do if you dont have the tools or equipment to do it.

Are your rear tires loaded? Two post lifts are designed to have equal weight on each arm. Tractors are designed to have a light front end for loader use. If I was going to try it I would put the tractor backwards and try to have the rear tires closer to the center of the lift to try and get the center of gravity of the tractor right. As for making something to adapt the lift I would get some 8" or even 10" c-channel and weld pegs that fit into the holes on the arms.
