I wondered about that too. It could happen if the tapers don't match and he has to keep tightening to keep the tie rod end from spinning. I wonder if lapping compound would tell us something.

Maybe so. This may be a good time to use a torque wrench and just tighten to the manufacture spec. If there is another issue then it should be addressed but the stripping thread problem would go away.
