Tractor
I have a Kubota M-5400 and a B-2910 plus a G-1800 riding mover which is orange too.
I am going to buy one of the two Kubota tractors. I read the specs and the only difference seems to be cruise control and the seat. I have a bad back and ankle and will be snow blowing a half mile driveway. Any imput on which of the 2 tractors would work best for me. Thanks, Kenta

I have a B2910, but I have never looked at a B7800, so I can't give you an objective comment, just my experiences. The seat on the 2910 is pretty comfortable, and the armrests are very useful in most situations, and they rotate up out of the way when you need more room, like when you are turned around in the seat watching what is happening behind you. Or you need to look over the edge of the tractor to see exactly where the rear wheels are. BUT, since the tractor has no suspension, you will feel every bump travel up your spine, so the seat is the only insulator from ground shock. The 2910 seat has adjustable springs under the seat so you can adjust it to your weight, and that makes a big difference. I also have a lot of back problems and I can work for several hours before I have to rest my back. I'm sure that with a standard seat, I would be forced to take breaks much more often.

As far as the cruise control, I absolutely love it, and I would never have another tractor without this same design. You can adjust the speed without ever having to move your foot, from a slow crawl to full speed. But the cruise only works in forward, you have to use the heel pedal to reverse direction. Now, I mainly use the cruise when I mow 6 acres of grass, but I have used it when I built my road, tilled my 6 acres for grass seed, moved dirt, logs, brush, and anything that I will be going at a constant speed for more than a few minutes.

One other thing the 2910 has that has really been beneficial are the extendable rear 3PH arms. They make hooking up your implements a lot easier on your back if you don't have the implement on dollies. I don't know if the 7800 has that feature or not. By the way, you will be able to store and hook up your implements a lot easier and faster if you make dollies for all of them. Struggling with heavy things like tillers, box blades, or any implement that weighs over 200 pounds is very hard on the back, without the ability to roll them around on wheels (if you have a hard surface like concrete floors). If you have any specific questions about the B2910 or B7800, you will find many happy owners of both, willing to share their opinions.
Good luck with your purchase, they are both good tractors, as are most all of the compact utility tractors.

Thanks Bubba. I appreciate your imput. I have a M5400 for the big jobs, but my main man runs that one. I am buying the smaller Kubota for snow blowing a half mile road in Vt. with a front blower. The B7800 has a cheap cruise control on the wheel and I am not sure how well it works. Also the steering wheel doesn't tilt and that might help. I am just trying to stay in the game and after 60 it's getting harder, that's why all these comfort questions. When I was 30 I would have just been happy to have an engine and 4 wheels. I will probably go with the B2910 and pay the extra $1500. Kubota must have cut some stuff out to lower the price? Thanks again. Kent

Here is a thread asking the same question.

I'm glad I got the extra features now that I am over 60. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And, of course, price.

As for cruise control, under the steering wheel of a B7800, just to the left of the parking brake lever, is a lever you can press down to maintain speed. This leaves you free to do whatever else you want to be doing with your right foot so long as you can remain seated.

Some people like the B2910's extendable lower links, a feature lacking on the B7800. If your bad back would make it hard to twist around to see the alignment as you back into place, put a plus in the B2910 column.

There is no question that the B2910 has some amenities lacking on the B7800, but either should work well for you.

Anyone considering spending the money for a B2910 should also consider whether an L3130 would make sense. The dollar difference is about the same from B7800 to B2910 as from B2910 to L3130, but the L series gives a whole lot more machine.

kenta,

If you have back problems, I strongly recommend the B2910 with its extra "creature comforts". The suspension seat and extendible 3 pt. lower links are well worth the additional difference in cost, in my opinion. I bought my B2910 3 1/2 years ago, before the B7800 was released. I do have some back issues and I've got a ways to go before I hit 60.

I also second the suggestion of putting implements on dollies. I do that with my snowblower, backhoe and backblade and it really makes mounting/demounting a snap.

My back is OK, but I still like those extendable links on my B2910.

I priced some of the extendable-link parts , thinking I would like to retrofit the longer arms to my BX2200 [to get more lift height], but it would have cost over $400, and that was not for everything! I guess what I am trying to say is that adding later might not be cost effective.

If you can afford the difference and have your mind set on one or the other I would recommend the B2910.

With a bad back you might even add something like Pat's Easy Change ends to make hookup of attachments even easier [from what I have read here, they are pretty good and well made]. I assume they would work with the extendable links, making hook up even easier.

Let us know how you like the new tractor when you get it!

It sounds as if the 2910 would be better for you. I went with the 7800 and love it. I spent the extra money I saved on more implements!!! If money is not the issue then I would definitely move up to the 2910 or 3130. The 7800 does have a cruise control but it is not as nice as the one on the 2910, it does not have the extendable lift arms, or the nice seat. The bells and whistles on the 2910 (for the price) didn't interest me which is one reason I went with the 7800. Back up straight to the implement or put it on dollies and the extenable links aren't needed. The cruise that came on my 7800 is fine for what I need it for. The seat would have been nice, but can't justify the price.

FWIW, I checked it out and you can get various after market seat upgrades (including some w/fold-up arms) for between $50 and $150. So I don't think that the seat difference justifies going to the 2910 unless you want the other features.

This is a close call. I did this same shopping about a year ago, was it that long already.

What someone else said, the money difference was used for yet another implement.

I can do without the extras of the 2910. I don't spend hours in the seat, wrote that off.
I don't swap implements, on a daily, hourly basis, wrote that off.
I don't tilt the steering wheels in my car, wrote the 2910 feature off.
I don't need cruise control, too many hills and what not....

So, did this convince you yet? My thing will be after-market extensible links, or a concrete floor and dolleys in my shed in the future....
