Kubota BX 23s rear pto 11 tooth select shaft tooth broke

My 11tooth select shaft broke a tooth. Is the gear machine one piece with the shaft or pressed on? From looking at the service manual it looks like the front of the rear end needs to come off. If so it is going to be a time consuming process.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.
