I can see your point, but I don't expect to take the loader off much and when I do, if I can't get it done in less than 5 minutes...well then maybe I shouldn't be buying a tractor! Thank you for the assistance and advice...I never thought I would learn as much about tractors as I have!

If you compare the specs on engine HP, weight, tire size, tractor wheelbase and tread width, availability of 3pt hitch or not, presence of PTO or not, etc, the Simplicity XL looks very similar to say a Kubota BX1830/2230 to me. So exactly what is it that would make it not a SubCUT tractor and instead a lawn and garden tractor (besides the way Simplicity lists it on the website). My original statement was "SubCUT sized tractor" so I believe the Simplicity should be included in that list. In fact I probably should have included the JD X series as well since they come close in size to many of the SubCUT's even if they don't match the capabilities and construction of the SubCUT tractors.

Sorry if I was not specific enough - I was not referring to the quick attach feature of the FEL as a unit but the quick attach feature that JD puts on the 2210 that allows you to quickly change buckets, or put a pair of forks or other implements on the FEL arms. On all of the other SubCUT sized tractors the bucket is pretty much permanently attached - unless you want to start pushing out the pivot pins to put another implement on the FEL arms.

Gotcha...anc yes, that is a very nice feature. I have to admit, the JD has me looking at it more in depth that is for sure. It was interesting though as the 2210 was cheaper than the X495 (I beleive that is the 4wd) and the x585. Plus, those 2 X series didn't have the rear PTO and they were gasoline engines.

The ergonomics of the JD were nicer than both the Kubota and the Case/NH tractors. If the Kubota and the Deere were priced the same, I would be going wit the Deere. But I am looking at $1300 more for the Deere and to me I think, as you even stated, I will be very please with the Kubota's performance. However, I do like that quickhitch system on the JD. Too much information! Thanks for all of your input.

You're getting good prices on your tractors, best I can tell. My BX2230 was about $300 more, Oh well /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif!! And I can't wait for mine to be delivered, my list of things to do with it gets longer by the day!

This is without any personal experience, so take it for what it's worth --- I'm getting the R4 tires. I decided against turf after hearing from enough people, on and off this site, that they won't tear up your turf. Plus, the added traction will come handy when you're not mowing. Others have also used even more AG-gressive tires /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif with good results.

I don't see the point. Any subcut, or small compact for that matter, just does not have the loader capacity to use pallet forks. Till you move the load out beyond the bucket, your going to have 150-200lbs max lift capacity.

What I don't like is the R4 tires turning into racing slicks in mud.

The tires for our little sub compacts aren't really R4's. And they do much better in muck than the turfs - it takes very little to turn the turfs into slicks, but a bit more to turn the bar tires into slicks. I much prefer the bar tires in muddy, sticky clay than the turfs, as I've had both types of tires on my current machine. I also get a better lawn cut with the bar tires as the fronts don't seem to crush down the grass as much as the turfs do, so more of the grass gets cut

The bar tires available on the Cub 5234D perform very well in mud and they don't mark up the lawn unless it is quite soft or you are in 4wd.
