Welsh Eco logger here.
On my 7 acre holding in foothills of north wales, I keep pigs, hens, turkeys
I also have a small logging bussiness which keeps me out of the pub!
My trusty David Brown 990 has a fork lift attachment on the 3 point mostt of the time so it's a right pain to dismount and fit the topper to mow the paddock, or hitch up the trailer. So I'm considering getting a compact but the choice is HUGE. Primary use will be to tow the laden trailer from the yard to the woodpile ~ 2500kgs and have the topper fitted to cut the paddock.. ( the one I have presently is a 6 ft width and probably too heavy for a compact)
Pondering a rotator too.
So, please give me some options:
2 or 4 wd?
Puny 18 hp or more manly 3 cyl 24hp
Turf tyres ( for use on the lawn) or regular agri tyres ( will turf tyres give me the grip towing the trailer up a 1:30 slope?)
Any make/ model ?

Thanks......ecologger

Croeso!

Just my personal bias:

Compact tractors are very light (compared to your older machine), so...

-4 wheel drive (MFWD) is essential

- higher horsepower is a good investment; for a bit more fuel expended per hour, you'll get a lot more capability

-R1 (ag) tires are the only way to go (nothing comes close to them for all-season/all-surface traction)

- rear tires should be filled for ballast (CaCl or, better yet, one of the biodegradable substitutes if available in the UK)

I don't have a particular model bias in that size range, but if Kubota is available and supported locally, I would not bother looking at other brands.

Go to the website TractorData.com You will find specs and info on most tractors, makes and models. This may give you some insight in regards to a machine that meets your needs. Also check the forums on TBN. you can also go to search and type in what you are looking for, such as tires;etc. Hope this helps. Good Luck.:tractor: By the way, welcome.

Please remember when researching TractorData.com that the engine HP is different from the PTO HP. The charts will indicate this. Good luck.

First off, were you looking at the B-series or the L-series? I think a 2500kg trailer is a little too heavy to be handled by a B-series.
