IMHO, he should have droppe dthe loader bucket.. that would have weighted his rear again.. even without down pressure on the bucket.
As far as driving on slopes... can't imagine why he wasn't in 4wd if he had it... It is so easy to pop in... he could have taken advantage of compression, etc on that geared machine.
