I AM JUNKING MY 5 YEAR OLD CUB CADET 2160. WHAT A NIGHTMARE THAT HAS BEEN, BUT I WILL SPARE THE UGLY DETAILS (UNLESS YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW). I AM MOVING ON UP TO A KUBOTA BX2200. WANT TO BUY THIS WEEK, KEEP SEEING TALK OF AN FEL. WHAT IS AN FEL. BEING A WOMAN I NEED TO KNOW SO I CAN LOOK LIKE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. I AM GETTING THE 60" DECK AND THE BUCKET, POSSIBLY A BLADE. CUT ABOUT 4 ACRES AND HAVE A SMALL FARM WITH LIVESTOCK. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

What you are calling the "bucket" is really what the letters, FEL, stands for. Longhand version would be Front End Loader. Really turns the BX 2200 into a very versatile, small wheeled tractor. In my 15 hours of ownership, I've used the FEL alot. Have fun.

GUESS THAT ONE WAS PRETTY EASY. ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW BEFORE I GO TO THE DEALER IN THE A.M.?
ALSO, PLEASE TELL ME I DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MECHANIC TO OWN ONE OF THESE. I CAN DO BASIC MAINTENANCE CLEANING AND SHARPENING, BUT HAVE ALREADY SPENT TOO MUCH TIME FIXING MOWERS. THANKS AGAIN

Only advice I can think of is to check the http://www.carverequipment.com site to get a feel for prices and there is some good info regarding usage etc. of the BX.

When you get a chance, register and fill out your "profile". That way people on this site can get an idea where you live, etc.. and be able to help you with info on local dealers, parts and even unique issues such as climate and soil conditions etc.. But beware, you may become addicted to this site!!

matainece is pretty strait forward on the BX,and you shouldn't have to take a mecanic's class. Kubota is a very reliable tractor,if you do your mataince proceedure to the book you should have no trouble with the BX for many many years,best of luck!

Hey. Being picky here /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif, but the FEL is the hydraulic cylinders/lever-arms metal-frame assembly to which the "bucket" (and/or OTHER "implement" ) ATTACHES, and by-which they are positioned . (Or is the "bucket" NOT separable from the FEL, on this particular tractor?)

Larry, the FA211 FEL has a removable bucket like all Kubotas, the loader unit weighs 460ish pounds and the bucket weighs another 60 or so.
LYNDA!, you will like the BX and find it much more reliable than your other "thing". It should not require unusual maintenance, you will need a quality grease gun (Lincoln) with both straight and flex ends for greasing the deck and the FEL. You will of course, always park it inside and lavish it's paint with wax and clean it regularly--what a dirty BX--egads (you should see mine--it is filthy). Have fun, remember that FEL is very powerful and sticks weigh out there and will knock over all kinds of stuff including people--be careful with it, when I mow etc I use the tractor with the FEL removed and parked inside my garage. You're not being "picky" and you're absolutely right in your correction. I was, of course, being somewhat generic and made an assumption one would realize hydraulics, etc are needed to operate any tractor's bucket (backhoe included). I should have known better than to make generalizations. In our Training Dept. we constantly correct each other as well. It's much better for the student for us to be consistant with definitions, etc.
