Hi David /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif,

Maybe if we really wanted to look at the semantics, the "frame-thing" should be called a "positioner" since it raises/losers/tilts-foward/tilts-back any bucket, forks or "whatever" which is attached to it. But since this "positioning" is most often used in loading material (or moving it, at least) , I suppose FEL is close enough in meaning. (FEM? Already taken! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif but would've been ok for "front-end mover", I guess)

Anyway, WE know what we mean, huh?

Linda,

The BX is a fine machine. The 60" deck is a good choice (but not the only one). The FEL (Front End Loader) is what you're calling the bucket.

I owuld imagine that you will find you will do less maintenance on a BX than you do on other tools. Change the oil, grease the fittings, that sort of thing. The diesel engine is practically maintenance free, and they run forever.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the advice. Have a dealer coming anytime to look at a trade in. The time I spent on this forum and the things I learned have saved me time and money. Went to four dealers this morning, the price was between 11,900 and 13,400. Maintenance Free, can't wait to see how that feels!! Thanks again

Hey! Don't take that too literally Linda! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Maintenance is still required, but should not be a burden.

I know what you meant, I can handle the easy stuff. It's the constant break downs of the cadet that were making me crazy. Bought that new and had over $400 in repairs every year. I may even let my husband drive this one!! Thanks again

Nice to see another female in the discussions! I also mow about 4 or 5 acres and raise animals (horses, pigs, chickens, whatever).

Looks like you're taking quite a leap....Going from 16 HP lawn mower to a 22 HP tractor. I would only caution you about the deck size and turning radius differences if mowing is your prime use. I looked up the models on the web - A Cub cadet 2166 has a 26.5" turn radius and 42" deck, the BX 2200 has a 90" turn radius and 60" deck. If you are mowing "flat" property with large open areas this will not be an issue. But if you have uneven ground, tight areas and obstructions, this may be actually be more difficult to use for mowing.

I gave my 10 year old Cub Cadet 1320 to my daughter and her husband last year and they love it. I bought an 18 Hp Husqvarna with a 48" deck for mowing. The old mower could not mow in reverse and I have a lot of corners and obstructions, so now I can get the job done in 1/2 the time. I have tractors for taking care of the rest of the property with plenty of attachments.

The day I bought my '95 AGS2130 Cub Cadet and found it wouldn't mow in reverse, I promptly told the dealer that it would NOT do for me. They claimed it was illegal for them to "fix" it, but they'll show you which wire to unplug and then it worked fine./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Just want to make a correction to your post, the BX does not have a 90 inch INSIDE turn radius. When you say the Cub had a 26.5 radius that was the inside radius and for a BX with the 60 inch deck that is somewhere between 35 and 40 inches and slightly greater with the 54 (yes greater). The 90 inches is the outside turn radius probably again with the 60 inch deck. OOP's, I have been saying radius in several posts when I meant diameter, the radius to the inside then would be about 20 inches for the BX--I know--I have one -- I measured it. The cut radius mathematcially would be 60 inch cut plus the approx 20 inch inside radius (area left uncut is approx 35-40 inches diameter--give or take) so the outside cut radius would be 80 inches or 160 inches diameter. The mower is wider than 60 inches including the discharge chute so clearance to the outside of a turn for objects probably would be about 90 inches diameter or about 7.5 feet which is exactly by the way what the brochure says on the spec sheet. Sorry but you were not comparing measurements taken the same way. The BX, amazingly enough, is actually more manuverable than many much smaller LT/GT's. Just the facts. J

Trescrows - Thanks for the correction - I thought that sounded like too big a difference, but I just pulled the specs directly off of the MTD and the Carver sites.

Bird - Do you remember which wire do you need to fix to run in reverse? I'm sure my son-in-law would love to know.

Pat, sorry I can't tell you for sure. Of course, it was a different model (smaller), but it was just a plug down low, and to the rear, on the left side of the engine.
