Kubota Frail Mower

I might have a bearing going bad on my Ford Flail mower... was mowing yesterday and when I got into heavy grass... smelled something burning and looked back to see smoke rolling off the belt.

I can't help with the bearing, but aid in your search it's called a "FLAIL" mower, not a "FRAIL" mower, unless its made of cardboard

I just did a quick google search for "vemco flail mower" and got a lot of hits.

I think the poster made a typo when he typed in the thread subject .
If you will notice he typed in FLAIL in the first part of the message body.

crbr, Vemco manufactured the unit for Kubota and it certainly has some age to it, but not too sure when this one was built. I have not talked to the Kubota dealer, but may later down the road.

milkman Thanks for the link.........interesting and they just might have what I need.

sandman2234 - accordionman, I will be sure to mic the shaft and measure the hole placements. Hole pattern might be slightly off but we can certainly manage that.

Soundguy, LBrown59 Not to worry guys, at my age I am permitted to make spelling and grammar errors............

I ordered a manual today for the darn thing so with any luck it will have a parts discription and maybe a number or two.

Should be a pretty easy fix, mike up the shaft dia after cleaning it up and Im assuming you still have the bearing retainer housing. Check the ID on that and go down to your NAPA dealer and give him the numbers !

Scotty, well, I just started looking at the machine and all of the parts are missing so it will be a "make do with what I can find", situation.
Price is right though {free} so the most I can be out is a few dollars for the bearings and time and effort.

What about the bearing on the other end of shaft? Can you get a # off of it? This may be why they are giving it away, couldn't find the parts either. But all is not lost, if all else frailsD ), take it to a machine shop and let them turn it down to a stock bearing size. Good luck with your search.

Hello Scotty,

Wow, I appreciate the offer! I order an owners manual and should have it this weekend. Let me look at it and then go from there. By the way the unit is at my neighbors house. He has more old tractor equipment hanging around than most used equipment dealers. It is always fun to go into his barn and just look around.
