Oil & Fuel Kubota ideal for Flat Ground ONLY????

I have a 2004 Kubota L3130 HST and I was wondering if anyone knows the maximum angle of slope for operation? Specifically for proper lubrication of the engine and hydraulic pump.

My Kubota operates with a WOODS backhoe and I have a trench to dig that runs up a hill of 10 Degrees with a max of 15 Degrees. The tractor is situated with the engine downhill and stabilized for backhoe operation with the front loader down it is at 6 Degrees.

I have been told from the dealer that this model Kubota has issues operating at any kind of slope due to the lack of oil being able to be pumped to the hydraulic pump drive side. At this slope it seems insane that I own a tractor that can't operate on anything but flat ground.

Anyone have any insight?

Just got the holder kit to fix the problem, paid about $250 for the kit. Will install after ther heat wave stops. Kind of mad at dealer because I got the tractor in April of 2005 with backhoe installed and notice of problem was issued in December of 2004.

At the very least there should be a recall on units equiped with backhoes and have the kit installed this is a ticking time bomb otherwise.

Hi David - how did you find out about this and find out about the issue on these tractors. I just found out today after my second hydraulic pump failed. And I found out on the sly, neither the dealer nor Kabota (both have been dragged into this issue) were forthcoming with information on this issue.
There definitely should be a recall....

Not all dealers read the tech bulletins. Was common with all brands older tractors that if operating on steep slopes you had to overfill the hydraulic fluid so they didn't starve for fluid. You must have noticed it cavitating before it failed, why would you keep running it?

Slowzuki - tractor gave no indication of having issue prior to failure. It was not starved for hydraulic fluid but motor oil on the drive side of the hydraulic pump.

Have a 5030 with a Branko 511 I usally dig on flat land. Would this affecgt me. Is it possable for not dealers like me to see techinical bulitons. Thanks John

Go back and search about a month ago and few years back, there were a few cases.
The pump will not cavitate, it is not running out of hydraulic fluid,the bearing is running dry on the drive shaft. When pointing down slightly their is no way for the pump shaft bearing to get oil as it is driven from the backside of injector pump. One guy heard squeal and the other one just broke and lost all functions as it was also a GST.
The "holder kit" fixes the problem, has new oil filter base with fitting for lube line with banjo fittings that goes to a new pump holder with hole to deliver oil to shaft bearing and has banjo bolts with calibrated holes to deliver the proper oil flow.

Think this failure may happen just on level ground with stailbilizers extended.

Gotcha. I operate mine on steep ground but never stationary. Must be enough splash lubrication while the tractor is moving. Mine is a 5030 though, the kit would be different. Anyone know if the 5030 has the same problem? Bulletin only lists the 3 cyl models.

Thanks for the info, I will look those up.
Earlier today I spoke with The Western division service rep and asked him at what angles I can operate this tractor with a backhoe, he told me Kubota will not state any maximum angles at which you can operate the tractor.
I explained the situation to him and he told me that he would call the dealer who is performing the service to gather more info. Later today I received a call from the dealer telling me that this series tractor does have issues with operating on slopes. (of coarse this was not an issue when they sold it to me and fixed it the first time.) The dealer told me that Kubota will add the oil pick up tube to the hydraulic pump and fix all the damage as a result of this issue.
Kubota is footing the bill, I was quite surprised. The first time this happened Kubota told me the I was beyond warranty and it was my problem. Now they are paying the bill and fixing the problem.

You are a lucky owner, I doubt Kubota would do this for many people that are beyond the warrantee period.
