I am looking for a tractor in the 30 hp range. I am considering a B7800 or one of the "L" tractors. Will be mowing small fields and brush hogging black berries some tilling. I will be getting a front loader.
Thanks for any advice.

Just took delivery on a new B7800 on friday 7/29/05. It's got the L402 loader. I have just a tad under 5 acres and I believe it will do all I need to do around here. I have about 3.5 hours on it so far, spent saturday checking all the bolts, grease fittings etc. then went to company picnic and got back to late to play. Used the front loader all morning to move some wine barrel planters for the wife. To hot out there right now. It works great. I'll try to get some pic's up by next weekend. Good luck on your search, it all depends on what you need the tractor to do. This forum will give you tons of information if you ask the right questions. Thanks j48j48.

I'm in a similar predicament. B7800 HSB or L2800 HST. Features are very similar, price is identical, looking for a reason to purchase one or the other. Best I (and others in this forum) can come up so far is that the B7800 is slightly smaller in stature all the way around, and if you need to get in tight places there is some benefit to the B7800. Also the B7800 is 1/4 inch 3pt where the L2800 has position control. Not clear to me which is more desirable as the concensus in this forum (seemingly) is that you can get used to either.
I'm leaning toward the L2800 HST as there is a bit more juice to the FEL, RPM, and PTO capacity, though interestingly the B7800 has slightly better overall HP (30 to 29... go figure...).

I have a B2910 which we purchased last year in May. I specifically bought it rather than an L series due to the weight - I wanted something fairly light (the old tractor it replaced was an IH 444 with loaded tires - easily weighed at least twice what the B2910 weighs) that could be used to mow with and not tear up the lawn. There are some areas of our lawn which stay somewhat moist and soft ... for me the B2910 was a good fit for what will be the primary use eventually - mowing.

We have 16.5 acres, of which about 10 is woods, 5.5 is lawn, and 1 is field. I have the LA402 loader and the BL4690B backhoe, as well as few other implements. While it would be nice to have larger tractor for some of the work I'm currently doing on the property, the B2910 for the most part will do just about anything I want - it just takes a little longer. FWIW.

Just went through the same decision earlier this year.

Ended up with the L3400DT: most hp/$$, I wanted every available hp to be used (thus, no HST), large enough to manage 6' mower easily, light enough to manage the lawns (no really wet areas), and great financing.

I am happy. Couldn't ask for more. Long research meant fewer surprises (there always are some).

Drive them all...paper comparisons only take you so far.

Don't sell the B7800 short. I've spent many hours sharing the seat on my B7800 with my rear end. The B7800 is one powerful, tough, tractor. What ever you buy get the top and tilt if you get a rear box blade! It's worth every cent it costs. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your profile indicates much of your land is in timber. For maneuverability through the trees, the B7800 will have an advantage. I have put a lot of hard hours on my B7800 and remain very pleased with it.

I will have some open field but a lot of around trees and roads ect. I am starting to lean to the B7800.

You may want to consider a Folding ROP's if trees have low branches that you do not want to trim.

I too was looking hard at the B7800 until I started penciling the B3030. The big advantage for me with purchasing the B3030 over the B7800 was the frame mounted backhoe vs. a 3-pt hoe for the B7800. If you think you'll ever want to get a hoe, I would take a look at the B3030. I also like the sloped hood, infinitely adjustable 3-pt vs. the 1/4" set-up on the B7800, the adjustable ratcheting / spreading of the 3-pt, and the clutchless PTO on the 3030. The $1900 price difference between the 2 tractors made it a no brainer for my situation. I think that for the money, the B7800 is an excellent value for what you get compared to the competition. Did I mention that the B3030 has a cup holder too.....that sealed the deal right there /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
