Even in the later years, the insurance will pay what the tractor is worth. It works just like auto insurance.

At least John Deere insurance does. I'm assuming Kubota's works the same? 272$ for 5 years of coverage on a 23,300 tractor and FEL.

Jason, I can only speak of Masssachusetts, and here my 2000 New Holland 1920 does indeed have a title ( same as a car or truck). Bill C

when you purchased it did you get a "Certificate of Origin"? This is the document that is presented for the first time a title is issued. I got one for my boat trailer, but CT doesn't issue titles for boat trailers, so I still have it. I asked about one when I purchased my Kubota, but the dealer said that they didn't issue them for tractors. I found this strange, because it is considered a "motor vehicle" when used on a public road and as such must have a registration plate issued and insurance. I know that in MA any vehicle that is used in a parking lot of a shopping center must be registered because they consider it "public". I learned that when I was doing some plowing in a shopping center parking lot and the other crew was piling snow with the loader. The loader didn't have registration plates and the driver was ticketed for operation of a motor vehicle without a registration. When he went to court, the judge said that was the law and it must be registered even though it was on private property because the public was free to use the property.... i.e. shopping.

Let me preface my comment that follows with the following disclaimer (legal talk 'ya know). I am NOT positive about the following point. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I "think" I recall that the Kubota insurance just pays off the loan in the event of loss. I'm at work and do not have my policy in front of me though, so I can't verify. Anyone else know for sure?

If that's the case, then it's of little value to me, considering I'm putting down $7500.00 which would "disappear" if the tractor got stolen the next day after delivery.

It should cover "replacement value".

Anybody with Kubota insurance please review your paperwork and advise.

Check your homeowner's policy, too. As long as you are not using your machine for "business", some policies will cover it; mine does as long as it is on my own property. (My Chubb policy also covers business equipment, but specifically excludes vehicles, including tractors, etc.)

What we have to allow people to register for license plates is a MSO (manufacturer statement of orgin). That and a UCC1 (Uniform Commercial Code document) is the closest thing we have to a title here in texas.

If I understand you correctly, the Kubota Corporation will supply a Manufacturers Statement of Origin which will show the serial number of the tractor????? The reason that I want to be clear on this is that my dealer said that Kubota didn't supply anything to him other than his invoice in the form of documentation. All I have to prove my ownership is the invoice from the dealership...

Icat,

If you get a chance, please review your policy and let me know what the deal is.

Thanks,

Rick

OK, I checked my Kubota Insurance policy and I was INCORRECT. The coverage IS for the repair and/or replacement of the tractor, but not to exceed the original sales price. Coverage remains in effect for the term of the loan, even if you pay it off early. Seems the 'ole memory is the first thing to go, at least as far as I can remember. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
