As my L3200 is my first tractor, I had no context for how smooth or jerky a 3pt should be & probably would have never knows without other people talking about it on TBN. Mine is a bit annoying when using the box blade for fine grading, but very livable. The previous generation to the L3200/L3800 was noticeably worse it seems.
The L3301 or whatever I saw at a John Deere tractor days thing was noticeably smoother than my L3200. Not sure if they are all that way & they fixed the engineering problem in the new model or I just saw a good one. I haven't heard any other complaints about the new ones though.
Unless you are really particular there's a good chance you won't have an issue. Just get the dealer or seller to put some implement on the hitch & try to raise it 1/2" at a time. You will likely be fine with it (really fine when you consider the fixed newer one will be $2-3k more).
