hi my kubota was always running cold ,so one day i pulled the thermostat housing out and found there wasn't a thermostat in there ,so i got one for it with a temp rating of 82c, then it over heated ,the thermostat wouldn't open . so i got another one .it was alright for about two runs[over a month].now this thermostat is doing the same thing /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifis this a common fault with d1302 .do they suffer from air locks? i am going to try drilling 2 small holes in the out ring of the thermostat .any suggestion . thanks

Have you checked the radiator to insure the fins aren't clogged? I had a L2201, and that was the only reason that it ever ran hot. If that's not it, just remove the thermostat.

Are you sure you are not putting the thermostat in facing the wrong directions. I don't know if my l2000dt has a thermo in it or not, but it does have a aftermarket temp gauge. My unit runs real cool, usually around 110F. I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to cover about half of it. Temp usually rasies to 130F.

Also, is your radiator cap holding presure?

before i drilled the holes in the thermostat i tried putting it in the other way around just incase i was told the wrong thing about its installation , the radiator cap does hold pressure ,i am thinking it gets an air lock in the thermostat housing on the underside of the thermostat , i will try another thermostat if that one does the same thing ,i will drill one pin hole in it. when i do it i will post the result. thanks rocketman128

The saga continues! You got me thinking about how cool my gray was running. I drained the fluid, removed the upper hose, and low and behold, I DO NOT have a thermostat.

As you know, it's important to run your diesel at the desired operating temp. In my case, 190-212F.

I am going to add a temp, and will update this post.

i got a new thermostat [one that suits v6 3.8l commodore ,82 degrees celsius ] .i drilled one hole that is 1/16 in size, and it looks like it might be ok, i had it idling for about 30min and it didn't over heat and it run up to temperature .on the weekend i will give it a proper run ..... joe

More data:

After I discovered that my L225DT did not have a thermostat, I bought one from the dealer and installed it. With the cardboard box still installed in front of the radiator, I started the tractor and let it run for about 10m at 1200 rpm. Radiator was barely starting to warm up, temp gauge was not reading any temp. Drove around the block for about 15m, when I parked, radiator very warm to touch, top and bottom hose warm, gauge still not reading anything (range starts at 180F), themo is set to open at 190 and close at 210 or so.

I don't think it ever got that hot. Did not boil over. Let a little antifreeze out when I opened cap. ALso upgraded cap to 7 psi version.

I quess the question is, does everybobies compact kubota run this cool, or do they just not heat up unless they are under load.

Tx,

Bob

with the new modified thermostat [model tt203-180] my l2002dt was idling for about 30m at about 1900rpm and the temp gauge sat just below half way marker .if it stays there when i give it a good work out ,i'll be very happy .my engine model is d1302 . joe

well ,3 thermostats later its all working nicely ,the 1/16 hole in the outer ring has done the trick, she warms up quickly and doesn't over heat, joe
