Tractor
Kubota L2550
Good Morning to all. Newbie here looking for some wisdom. I recently purchased a Kubota L2550 2wd tractor at an estate sale. The tractor is in great shape for the age, few cosmetic issues, but mechanicaly sound. This tractor came with about 9 implements and the one I am concerned about is the Woods 8400RD finish mower. After looking up info on the mower and seeing a 25hp requirement, and then looking up the tractor and seeing the 29 gross HP, but 24 pto HP, I am now hesistant to use it. I mow about 2 acres here in Florida every other week of thick grass. Can anyone tell me if my suscpicions are correct, and this is to much mower for this little tractor. Thanks

Try it and watch your temp gauge. Because an implement says it uses x horsepower does not necessarily mean it cannot be used on a lower HP tractor. Just be careful.

I use a Northwest brand tiller rated for 90 HP on my 2550. It takes everything the tractor has to lift it. I could probably destroy my tractor if I tried to use it like it had 90 HP. I just take it easy and have never had a problem.

It might be too much for thick wet grass but if you take it easy you will be fine. Don't mow too low and keep your RPM's up with no lugging. I have the same mower and use a B7800 with it every now and then and it works with no problem if I mow the lawn at 3 or 3 1/2 inches. If I mow at 2 1/2 it's a struggle and the temp gauge does rise but stays in the middle. Here are some photos.

Seriously, 1 HP difference? You should be fine. Slow down in thick stuff. BTW your tractor is not like your car--when it's working run that puppy wide open. Worst thing you can do to it is to dog it. Have fun--I had a 2250 for 20 years and it was a real workhorse. Those are solid units.
