My bush hog has a pressure relief vent plug that looks just like this one. Mine has a small ball bearing that's held closed with a small spring. I like it because no matter how much water I go through I know it's not going to get in the gearbox.

My Kubota M6040 has a front axle vent. Screw in nipple right dead center top of the axle. Rubber hose goes up to small diameter metal pipe above the radiator. The metal pipe has a 180 degree bend and the very end is squeezed almost closed. I would guess that the squeezed end is so nasty mud dauber wasps won't build nests in the pipe.

I was just noting that my tractor does have the vent. I think many tractors are vented, it's just hard to see the vent. No one in particular...

I did not have a vent on the L2550DT so I added one. I drilled a 1/16th hole in the fill plug and then drilled a second hole in the outside of the plug to receive a 1/4" npt hose barb threaded fitting. I turned the threads off the hose barb fitting to match the hole diameter in the fill plug and inserted and then seated it in place.
From the hose barb I ran piece of 1/4" fuel up higher in the engine compartment. I added a small inline fuel filter that breathes both directions and another piece of fuel line to continue another few inches. the end of the hose has a screen to avoid the insects building inside it.
If I am going to let the axle "breathe", it may as well be clean air through the filter.
