Kubota L3200 HST or John Deere 3032E

Yes. I would step up to the L3800! Not much more $ in the long run.

I would think most people would tell you, yes, it is! But what are your plans for the tractor? The extra gross and PTO horsepower of the 3800 means an extra foot of implement width capability (for many things, not all). Basically it allows for larger implements that better match the frame size of the tractor.

Not wanting to misuse this thread, let me quickly answer your question.
From what I understand what the dealer told me the L3200 and the L3800 have the same engine, just different bores and strokes, hence the added HPs. The rest of the tractor is exactly the same with the L38 just slightly heavier.
I don't even think I'm going to have a use for the PTO. I want to use the tractor mainly for digging (BH) and moving earth (FEL), removing rocks & boulders (BH), carry or shove them out of the way (FEL), grading my and neighboring driveways and snow plowing. Just my gut feeling tells me, that with the additional HPs I might be able to push heavier loads. Yes, I am aware that lifting loads has to do with the capability of the FEL. And that's the same on both machines.

Fair enough, but again, what are you plans? The DK tractors are still very maneuverable, from what I could tell. And it's the size (weight) that really makes them such powerful machines.

Yes, I understand this too. I am just afraid that with one of these units I have my driveway blocked in :). I am new to tractors and just the fact that I'm eye-level with the top of the back wheel is too overwhelming. It was already an awesome feeling to climb onto and drive the L3200 in the dealer's lot. Nevertheless, I don't wanna go with the B3200, which is smaller and much lighter, would give me less stability and probably traction and costs, save a few bucks, the same as the L3200.

I bought a kubota L3240 in March of this year. To date it has done every job that I asked it to do. The extra stuff on it really made the difference for me. When I went searching I mainly had two requirements: (1) the FEL had to lift about 1600 pounds, (2) the three point hitch had to be able to easily lift a 1000 to 1200 pound roll of hay. Do you have any specific requirements for the tractor you want, or is it all about price?

^ dude, a grand L is going to add, what, at least $5k to the prices he quoted above?

I checked out both tractors you are comparing before I found something used that better fit my budget. The Kubota L series just seemed so much more solid than the little (narrow!) JD 3032.

I think Kioti stopped selling the DK35 or I might advise you to look into that model, too. But the CK series is still a great tractor.

Should also add - the Bobcat CUTs are basically the same as the Kioti CK line, and I have heard of some amazing deals on those. If you have a dealer nearby, check one out.
Well hey Dude he didn't say he was looking for the cheapest tractor now did he?;) Just trying to get him to look at all options and the Grand L has them. Don't have to buy but never know until you look.

Well the L3200 or L3800 will probably do what you want to do. They will do a lot, But neither will do what my DK35se HST will do, or one of the Heavier grand L Kubota's with more weight. and it wont do what a DK40 will do as far as FEL lift ability. Tractors have a way of shrinking fast. Every hour you are on it operating pushing, shoving, lifting, grading, they just get smaller and smaller:). What is going on is that your experience and confidence grow as you become more skilled, and you want to do more. BUT you have to draw the line somewhere. You cannot do some things either because the bigger tractor will not fit or is not agile enough to do some jobs well, just too big. What you really need is about 3 tractors, small, medium and large:). If you are anything like me, you probably cannot afford 3 tractors. and will have to make do with one that is "about right" Good luck in your decision on finding that close fit.

Thanks for your reply, James.
Oh, I can follow your reasoning about the fast shrinking. But as you rightly said, there is a line to draw somewhere. And I'm sure over time I might want to add one thing or the other to the tractor too. So, yes, money is an issue - as much as I like (and also was ogling) the DK35/40 or L3240.

I realize this is an older thread, but yes, I went through the same comparison issues a month ago (June 2012) and found several things not mentioned in abeal's post, that swayed me to the orange. I posted these items in another thread the other day, but I wanted to add it to this one too, just so others can see that there is a trememdous difference and a notable advantage to buying the Kubota over JD 3032E, and sure the JD can be had with many of those same things that caused me to go orange, but they are options on the JD and standard on the Kub. Here are the most significant differences in the L3200 HSTand the 3032E:
1. Kubota had a quick-detach loader compared to the quick detach "bucket only" of the JD. (a kit can be purchased to make the JD loader detachable, for almost $400 more, plus installation)
2. Loader bucket lift height; Kubota was almost a foot higher lift.
3. Kubota has cruise control standard, optional on the JD (more $$)
4. Physical size and weight of the tractor, and tire size, Kubota was larger, heavier, and had larger front tires (in the R4's)
5. Kubota has an electronic fuel guage, compared to the "filler cap" guage on the JD.
6. Top speed, Kubota was almost 2 mph faster.
7. 3 range HST compared to 2 range on the JD.
8. Kubota comes standard with a drawbar, optional on the 3032E.
9. The biggest barrier for me to overcome on the JD, was that it is plastic! The hood, fenders, and even floorboard and step, are all made of plastic, compared to metal on the Kubota. I didn't have to think on that for long, to imagine what that green might look like after a few years in the sun, and after getting scratched up, etc. You sure won't be able to repaint it to make it look good again. Probably accounts for much of the 500+ lb. difference in weight too.

Anyway, I chose the Kubota, and I am very happy with my decision, hope this can be helpful to someone else.

Can the L-3200 pick up a 4 X 5 roll of hay with the front bucket?

I think the loader would probably pick on up but you probably want a larger tractor if you handle them much. You will need a good ballast on the 3ph too.
